Question real bad sputtering/missing in my 02 5.4

my truck is running real rough. i just recently did the in line fuel filter. it sputters when you accellerate really bad... it does it at idle too just not as bad..not throwing any codes. no lights at all... and have had them read and nothing comes up. my abs light comes on sometimes and my speedo wuits for a split second... but thats it.
my ideas.
plugs
coils- but no light
fuel filter
in tank fuel filter if there is one
o2 sensors-but no light
dirty throttle body
throttle positioning sensor if there is one

your ideas
?????

please help

its a 2002 f250 4x4 156000+ miles

abs light and speedo quitting makes me think that might be a wheel speed sensor but it missing that I would guess is a coil unless you blew a spark plug out of the block. My 99 I blew two spark plugs out of the block on my 5.4. Sounds like it is missing real bad when they go out.

where is the wheel speed sensor... i dont think i blew a plug because i cant hear anything that would sound like that all the time... when i push the throttle to the floor it sputters real bad... makes a popping almost like a backfire noise... with no codes its hard to tell....
what would cause this without throwing a code?

On the '02 it is possible to have a bad coil w/o a code. Do a search on here for something like "OBDII compliant".

Just replaced all my coils and my plugs about a month prior. Solved all misfire issues. The shop scanner stated "multiple misfires" but no CEL light and no codes.

Although the speedo thing is throwing me off...

'02 5.4 3.73 right? Like RUNVS stated I'd check the cops first and get rid of the popping or missing then look for a bad ABS sensor. The speedo thing COULD be related. The VSS is an easy change.

Im sorry yall. Im sure the speedo abs is a problem in its own not related to the motor. How much are coils and are there better brands to go with or should i stick with ford? Imma spend some time tonight with her tryin to figure out some stuff. The vss sensor? On the rear pumpkin? Do they still run off the gear on the rear carrier? That could be it...
The speedo only fails right when the abs light comes on so i know theyre related..
Thanks so much.
In tank fuel filter?? Exist???

Could also be a throttle pedal gone bad. I'd buy one from Ford and if it doesn't fix the issue, then just take it back. I had one go bad on me in my 2002 7.3, but the pedals are probably pretty close and also made by the same outfit.

5.4 missing

Mine ran terrible till I found my pcv vacuum line to the tbi had disintegrated from
oil and heat. Bought a new one from Ford for 31.50 amd it cured all problems. But it had indicated an emissions code when checked.

OK FTE's--- I am having a misfiring problem with my 2003 F350 with a V10. This truck is used for pulling a show truck and a camper so it doesn't get used during the winter at all. This year in March I had a friend ask me if I would go on a 800 mile round trip to pick up a tractor for him. Ran perfect throughout the whole trip. Put it away and three months later pulled it out of the garage. When I first started it I noticed a miss for about two seconds and it went away. Drove 50 miles and refueled it. Statrted it back up and it had a bad miss (like several cylinders) right away and it immediately went away. Thinking I got some bad gas I have tried injector cleaner, dry gas and the Stable for ethanol mixture with no help. The miss is getting worse-more often-more pronounced. Changing inline fuel filter today and that was no help. If you put the hammer down when it starts missing it clears up and wants to run. Any help??? By the way the truck has 16,400 miles on it so if anything is against it it is time not miles.
