Watch out for the Eccoboost! My 2011 King Ranch Crew cab 4x4 has been in shop for 3 weeks over bad transmission. Ford dealer in Raytown, MO says still don't know when they will have parts to fix as there is nationwide back order due to so many going bad. Will not give me a loaner. Ford reps won't answer calls. Extremely frustrated. Don't make same mistake I did and buy an Eccoboost F 150!

 

No sure why the dealer is making so hard. What part are they trying to get? You are the first one to even mention issues with the EB and tranny so I can't see how it would be on nationwide back order. I assume the truck is at Dick Smith Ford? Let me give them a call for you and find out!

 

Sorry to hear about your situation. I have close to 5k on my EB and so far so good. We take a chance everytime we drive a vehicle, buy a vehicle, and definitely everytime we buy a NEW MOTOR.

Did the Ford mechanic explain how faulty transmission is caused by the Ecoboost? Isn't this the same transmission in all half ton ford pickups? Yes the torque and HP is a bit higher than the other power plants but still that wouldn't cause the transmission to fail so early.

There's been a lot of postings regarding faulty pumps in the 2011 transmissions. Seems to be happening on the EB models and within a short period of time. Leaking is the issue. Search forums and you'll see plenty. Suddenly the 2009-2010 transmissions don't seem so bad!

 

We had one come in the she shop a few weeks ago with a harsh 2-1 downshift when coming to a stop. Turns out the intermediate clutches were not made to spec and they wouldn't release correctly. New clutches fixed it.

 

I WILL say the shift from 1st to 2nd is a bit rough.

 

Also I've noticed that if I put the transmission in M a lot of times unless you come to a COMPLETE stop it won't go all the way to 1st gear. So while at a complete stop i tried to put it in second gear and was surprised when it allowed me to do it. Then I punched it and the truck took off like a BEAST! Very smooth and powerful.
First gear is just annoying sometimes so if I can skip it I'm all for it.

Does this put a significant additional strain on the transmission or motor?

I have 700 miles on mine so far and she's smooth as a babies a$$.

 

Most of the torque converters for the 6-speed are coming from Mexico. My brother in-law worked in a machine shop here is town and the Ford SuperDuty plant sent them some new ones for inspection. They are being shipped from the supplier to Ford with metal shavings still inside from the machining process. This is getting into the transmissions and trashing them. Could be the same deal for the F150.

 

The leaky pump problem may not be just an Ecoboost thing.On another F150 forum I frequent, there was someone with a 5.0 who had a leaky pump too.

 

You'd think after all these years Ford could build a decent powertrain. They still can't build a tranny to save their lives and thier engines have left allot to be desired.

Ford's powertrain has always been the weakest part of their trucks by a longshot. It's amazing people have been so Brand loyal to them.

 

I had the weak link thought come across my mind before. But, when you compare to the other 2 big brands, Ford transmissions usually hold up quite well, at least in the trucks. The 4r100 goes a long time with a lot of abuse and neglect. So did the aod. I admit, they have had problems, but I dont think they were as bad as some others. I seem to remember Chevy have massive transmission failures and even Dodge lovers mention that they have weak transmissions.

I think they have the engine part covered ok, sure, they can always use improvement, but I see a LOT of truck engines with 300k+ on them, lots of 300, 302, 351, 5.4 and 6.8 engines. I would like to see Ford a little more pro-active with their supplier quality, perhaps maybe not quite so many foreign parts. Its a shame that a Toyota truck contains more american made parts than my Ford.
