So I have some goofy mags on my truck right now, I would like to get back to some 15" steel wheels with baby moons and rings. The problem is I have a 5x4.5 bolt pattern, and have no clue where to find reasonably priced steel wheels. Can I just use any steel wheel? Mid fifty sells stock ones for about $80 a pop. That seems a bit spendy for just some steelies.

Their 15x6 smooth wheels are $85 each. I know it's not a ton of money, but that seems ridiculous for some steel wheels.

 

If you buy new, expect to open your wallet...even for steelies.

Look for some local used ones at a junk yard and get some rustoleum and a few wire wheels. Take em down to steel and paint em.

Typically aftermarket caps do not fit stock steel wheels, so look for some stockers that you like, or just dress up what you have without caps.

Sometimes on the HAMB you can score a used set, keep lookin.

 

To be honest with you that is sorta cheap, as in good price. I have about 110-125 in each of the 5 wheels on my truck. I drove down to Coker Tire in Chattanooga and bought the wheels and rings. I have had to replace two FORD Block style hub caps at $25 a piece. Wheel and Ring came to about $90 each.

 

Wow, I guess I'm just way out of the loop on wheel prices. Coming from building cars vs. trucks, steel wheels are cheap and nobody wants them. Guess I'll have to make a trip to the bone yard.

 

I think all 4 of my wheels set me back $150 which includes the purchase, paint, wire wheel, beauty rings, bullet caps, and bullet lugs. They just took a weekend to clean up and put on.

 

Four P205/65R15 studded snow tires on Les Schwab steel wheels Opinions on these? For $40 bucks, who really cares, right?

Hey Jeff! Yeah, got it running...don't ask with what equipment (carb and c4, lol) but it's definitely an improvement from what was in there before. That 351c was a GAS HOG! I'm averaging about 14-15MPG now with the 302. That's a number I can live with.

Now I just need to finish the rest of the truck. It's a never ending cycle.

I'm also looking at changing to steel wheels however, from what I've seen the steel ones in the bone yards are mostly 5-7" wide and most of it is backspace. If I use those my rims will be about 3-4" inside the fenders which isn't the look I want. There may also be an issue with finding ford caps to fit. The cheapest I've seen were at Jegs. You may be able to find some from a 1973 Mustang which I think came 5X4.5; 15X8", if you find some they may want more than $80 ea.

 

I ran Dodge Van wheels on the back of my '40 Ford for years. They were a 7" wide rim with a 3 3/4 backspace. I ran JC Whitney baby moons on them. Don't know what year they came off of, but that would give ya something to start with, if you haven't done anything yet.

 

bchrismer is right; 80's Mopar car wheels off Town Car for one are 15" X 7" with 3 3/4" backspace. bought mine at $ 15.00 each.
