2007 5.4L Ticking Noise

I have a question about my 2007 F150 4x4 with the 5.4L. It has a ticking noise sound coming from somewhere around the motor, but it's not there till the motor has warmed up. It almost sounds like a exhaust leak, but I'm not sure. Any one have any ideas to what it might be , or can you tell me what to look for? Thanks

Possibly an exhaust leak, could also be cam phaser related. Possible that the injectors have become noisy as well. As you can see, a few things can lead to an audible "tick".

How's the truck running? Any drop in fuel efficiency?

The truck run great, it has around 55,000 miles on it. When it is idling you can't hear it, but if you reab it up you can here it, but only after the motor has been driven about 10 miles and has warmed up. We just took it on a 1000 mile trip and got around 16 to 19mpg on it, but we were towing a trailer with a car on it.

I had this exact same issue, and the right side exhaust manifold was cracked.

Could be a loose plug too. Try to isolate it to one side then pull the coils on that side. if any of the boots have carbon on it then that plug is loose.

My truck is doing the exact samething, its definately on the drivers side but you can only hear it when it's in first gear. Does this sound like an exhaust leak?

Right side cracked? How did you determined it was cracked? I checked to see if I had a loose plug and found nothing after finding out it was on the right side also. I got under the truck and the sound is coming from the manifold.

It was changed under warrenty, so i dont konw how they found it. I assume they listened for the sound up close, or ran thier hand around the manifold to feel the exhaust coming out. The service advisor said this was a common issue.

'2007 5.4L Ticking Noise

Thanks, I don't want to take it to the dealer ship but maybe I will. This noise is getting worse and It's really bothering my wife to drive it.

I have an 05 f-150 4x4 and I had an obnoxious exhaust leak on the pass. side... WITH ALOT OF PATIENCE, I removed the manifold(both sides of course), and replaced the 3 piece gaskets. 55000miles later and still no leak. if you are going to do this yourself bc the dealerships are crooks, be patient. AND CAREFUL. I was both, and still ended up breaking several studs off in the head. In which was not easy to get to as the manifolds are so close to the frame rails. Ford even stamps their FoMoCo badge on the gaskets... hold your truck at 1200 rpm under load by driving it... see if the noise gets louder...could most likely be cam phasers. If so ANYONE EXPERIENCING CAM PHASER ISSUES... I INSIST YOU BUY THESE!!!http://www.compcams.com/catalog/COMP...g_2010_365.pdf
GOOD LUCK SIR.
