Are you talking out at the tire? The worst part about working on an 8.8 rearend is having to remove the rear cover to remove the axles. Drain the fluid into a pan and remove cover(don't pry hard as if you twist it up it will leak-- been there, had to buy new cover).

Rotate ring/pinion and find the small bolt in the side of the differential(it's like a 3/8" size head). Very carefully loosen it(dont' get crazy, as they can break off). Remove bolt and slide the pin out of the center of the differential. This will allow you to push the axle INWARD to allow the C clip to be dropped off the end of the axle. Do each axle and then slide them out. Replace the seals and reverse the procedure.

You'll need some good silicone for the rear cover and new grease(modifier if it's a Limited slip). It's not a difficult job and with simple hand tools it's doable.

Back in the day with a 9" housing, you just unbolt the axle once the tire/drum is off. You don't have to deal with the differential(draining it and removing a cover).
