88 F-250 Rear Main Seal fix/replace

My rear main is driving me nuts. I carry cardboard in the bed right now to put under the truck whenever I park.
I am not really looking forward to dropping the tranny, but the leak is just too much anymore.
How many man hours an I looking at for replacement if I do it in my driveway?
Is there a productout there that I can add to the oil that really works?
Is there anything else I can do, instead of taking it apart?

ive used lucas oil leak stop and it always seems to work for me. it usually just slows down the leak though. id give that a shot if its really bothering you and you dont want to drop the tranny just yet. i dropped my manual tranny about 2 months ago and it took me like 9 hours with 2 people helping me. i ran into just about every little problem that was possible. what kind of motor and tranny do you have? and there isnt anything else you can do to replace the rear main without taking everything apart.

Ive heard from a few of my mechanic friends that say if you use full synthetic all the oil particles are small and uniform, but in conventional they are all sizes. Meaning that the small ones get through the spaces, as with conventional the bigger ones block up the spaces and plug it up so the smaller ones cant get out. So i figure that if you are using synthetic try conventional and see what happens. I used to use conventional then switched and now i have the same issue so im going to switch back to conventional or a blend the next oil change and see how it works for me. I dont know if itll work for you, thought id try and help someone on here as much as you guys help me.
