F150 Illegal towing in California
I have a curious question so i am trying to refresh my memory. I used to live in california like 10 years ago. This is all hearsay so bear with me. I could have something backwards or mixed up.
Someone there told me that its illegal to pull a trailer or a big trailer or something like that with a 5 lug F150 because its classified like a car and you will be ticketed. But you can tow with the 6 lug F150 in california.
Has anyone ever heard of this. Is it even true or did I just start my own urban legend?
WHAT.... This isn't the 97 - 03 F150 forum. Sorry

Your memory is faulty.
Towing Your Trailer Safely
If you are within GVWR and the max tow as indicated in the owner's manual, and limit the CGVWR as per that manual, and your hitch is properly rated for the load, and you are in compliance with other towing regulations as listed above and available on the DMV site, you can tow without worry in an F150 or anything else for that matter.

I'm a San Diego native and I've towed thousand upon thousands of miles around southern California with an F150. I pulled my drag car all over the place, not only to different drag strips but to many a street racing spot(back when I use to street race). I've been pulled over numerous times and it was never mentioned to me. Unless the laws have changed in the last 6 years(I moved to Nebraska) I wouldn't worry about it.
