Perplexed in Kalamazoo- fuel filter
I'm fairly new to the truck world, and even newer to gas powered trucks (my dad has always had powerstrokes). I'm tired of searching this forum so I'll just ask the simple question: Where the heck is the fuel filter?? I have a '90 F-150 4x4 with 4.9L I6.
And yes, I've got the fuel pump whine thing going on too. I'm going to replace this filter to see if the accelerator hesitation goes away and then tackle the whine later.

Hey, I'm from Kalamazoo too. On your topic though, there should be a fuel filter along the frame rail on the driver's side pretty close to the front. I had a problem with hesitation too, pretty bad in fact, and it helped. What kind of hesitation do you have?? I just had another hesitation problem and it was a bad plug wire.

Perplexed in Kalamazoo- fuel filter
My truck mainly hesitates only when I try to gently press the accelerator for smooth starts. If I punch the pedal, the truck takes off and there is no hesitation at all. I purchased the fuel filter and was all set to install (once I figured out where the darn thing was!!) but my mechanic warned me that the fuel filter on these was a pain in the butt to replace. So I've been avoiding the task but I'd really like to try and change it so I may crawl under and attempt the job. Any things to look out for or avoid before I get started??
