Check Engine Light on in my 2002 Lightning

I have a 2002 Lightning with some minor go-fast mods such as using a hand held programmer to boost performance, a K&N cold air set-up, and a low-restriction exhaust. The Cervini fiberglass hood with the Mach1 ram air ducts make a nice appearance and get some fresh air under the hood. The truck runs great...chirps second and is probably pulling 405HP to the flywheel, although I'm guessing, since it's never been on a dyno. I bought the truck new in June 2002. Have 87K on it...it's my daily driver. I will have it for life…I love my truck. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
<o> </o>
I have been running the K&N set up for 6 years...the super performance chip settings have been in place for 3 years. In the last 6-8 months, I got a check engine light display going on. Brought it right over to Ford when it first happened. They said the code is related to an air mass flow sensor (O2 sensor I'm guessing) and they couldn't get the light to stay off. Ford says they really can't find the problem and want to restore my truck to a stock air filter set up. I refused. Took the truck to a performance shop I deal with, but they cater to Chevy's and confess they don't know much about Fords. The did say that their OBD2 showed the truck running lean at idle and a vacuum line leak. The 02 sensors are fine. There are no vacuum leaks (I had every hose and part that could be plugged or tested checked and they all came out fine. The Evap cannister is good. Cat's are good...mufflers have been on a long time and get some back pressure, but mechanics says that not athe cause of the light staying on. Even changed the gas tank filler cap just on a whim, but the light still stays on. The truck runs great...just can't get past the TX DOT inspection station. Anybody have any idea what the problem is? I also need to find a competent tech/mechanic proficient in 2nd Gen Lightning’s in the north Texas area (near Flower Mound where I live or north Dallas vicinty would be nice). Can anyone out there help me? <o></o>

Engine Light on in my 2002 Lightning

Don't have the codes. The shops I went to interpreted them and that's what I was told. I can run it over to Auto Zone and have them supply codes. But in the meantime, still looking for a reliable service tech who specializes in 2nd Gen Lightnings. Anyone out there know anyone they care to recommend?

Your hand held programmer should read the codes!

Maybe the oil from your K&N has gotten on the MAF (mass air sensor) and you need to clean it.

Check Engine Light on in my 2002 Lightning

I had the truck returned to stock settings just to see if that would kill the light. When I pull out the programmer again to reset back to the super performance mode this weekend, I'll check for the codes. I did re-oil the K&N filter awhile back, and that was my first thought why the O2 sensor code was thrown. So I cleaned the sensor and even put on a brand new filter but that didn't take off the service light. I'll try that again, jut because I may not have done a good job cleaning it the first time. Thanks for the input. Still looking for a speed shop and Lightning specialist. Thinking about changing out the pulleys. Too much for me to do. Know anybody reliable?

Not in Texas..lol

You said they said it was related to an air flow sensor! NOT an O2 sensor.
