Want a pyrometer

Anyone know of a good pyrometer that will work on these new ecoboost engines? I'd like to have one so I know before I destroy my engine accidentally. Any suggestions? Thanks guys.

How would you destroy your engine accidentially? Fill us in?

I get it after doing a search. My father in law has one for his diesel I guess with the turbos it would be nice esspecially after towing. I wouldn't mind one either. I wonder if there is a ford one available. On the screen where it shows Trans temp. There is a blank menu it would be nice to add one there but I am not sure if that is possible?

EGT's will kill any engine with a turbo. Having a pyrometer pre-turbo will better inform you if your EGT's are getting too high so you can pull over to the side of the road and let it cool off.

Not needed on a computer controlled gas engine. If it goes lean, you will get a CEL.

What I'm worried about is what the 6.0L and 6.4L PowerStrokes were having with the EGR. There would be an overpresurization that would cause coolant to leak into the engine and cause damage to your engine before you got the CEL. Am I being too paranoid?

After thinking about this yes. I don't think this will happen on gas vehicles. This has happened on a select few diesels.

Too much fuel in a diesel increases EGT. Too much in a gas cools it, and eventually puts out the fire altogether, as a too rich mixture won't burn. Lean in gas will heat things up, but again, eventually you get a miss and you will get a CEL with rich or lean, as the oxygen sensors are always sniffing that out.

The owner's manual should advise on when you would get an CEL and why, and iirc, the flashing CEL means to shut it off asap.
