So I have been working on a buddies truck, (2000 F350, 7.3PSD DRW, bone stock, manual tranny), and one item I replaced was the VSS on the rear diff. Reason to replace....His speedo would only work intermittently and his ABS light would come on when it didn't work. Once in awhile it would jump and start working then die again after a few seconds. Well it still does it.

The wiring to the connector of the VSS looks a little iffy so I am going to check that closer but I wanted to know if there is anything else specifically I should check out.


Also, He loaned this truck out to someone else awhile back and the parking brake cable broke. I did buy another one for him... the first section at the pedal... but I haven't looked at it closer yet, (going by what i was told). Anything I need to know for tips or tricks to make replacing it easier?

Well the parking brake cable replacement went off without a hitch. Easier than I expected it to be.
I checked the plug at the VSS on the rear diff.... but even with a new sensor... the abs light is still on and no speedo. Every now and then the light goes out and the speed works.... but I need this to work the way it should. Any ideas guys? I know I'm missing something.

 

Check the front bearing hub. Mine was doing the same thing and I found the front bearings were bad and was giving a bad reading on abs sensor. New bearing hub and all is well.
