Cool '99 5.4 Misfire - Power Loss - Etc...

Hey guys, my 99 E250 is acting up. No power, very sluggish, rough idle, feel it in steering wheel etc...

First thing I did was change fuel filter. No change.

A week ago I scanned it, and it say P0306 Cylinder 6 Misfire. Also, P0174system too lean. I put new plugs in and cleared the codes out.

I pulled fuel rails and injectors and used a 9V battery, carb cleaner, etc and did the DIY injector cleaning like I always do.

At that time I took off all 8 coils ohmed them. They were all identical results. I jumbled them up and put them in different holes. I put in new motorcraft platinum plugs.

Now a week later (still running like crap) I checked fuel pressure. It's 31psi at idle, 40psi with vaccum disconnected and 40psi under load. I rescanned it and its coming up with P0308 Cylinder 8 Misfire.

By process-of-elimination does it appear that I have a bad coil? That the #6 coil got put in #8 hole and it's just simply bad? Any other ideas on where else to check?

Any help would be great. Thank you!

Appears that you're on the right track.

If you could get a known good coil and place it on # 8 and see if it clears up or continue to move #8 to another location and see if symptoms continues to follow.

only suggestions that springs to mind, is to clean the throttle body...AIC...& MAF.. and possibly the EGR. Also make sure you don't have a vacuum leak, double check the PCV valve and the elbow on rear side of the throttle body. Oh and make sure you have those new plugs torqued in @ 28ft-lbs
