429 in a 78 F250

Bought an old farm truck from friend of a friend of a (you get the idea). The truck has an old 429 out of a galaxie 500. I changed the oil and filter and put in 5 quarts. Ran it for a few minutes. Let it sit a while and the dipstick came out with 0 oil. I added a 6th quart and ran it again, let it sit and there is about an 1/8 an inch of oil on the stick. Way under ADD mark. Anyone know the length of a 429 stick from insert to tip? Im guessing this isn't the right stick. Im not very knowledgeable with engines but i know the basics. Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure the engine is from a car? my original '78 F150s 460 took 7 quarts to be on the full line.

There should b a tag on the driverside valve cover if its not u might want to ask one of the other guys here. I really don't remember where mine are. But if it has a bigger oil pan u will b able to tell it will either b real wide or hang real low under ur trk.
