Ford F150 1990

Ok, my 1990 F150 starts fine and runs great. Then I stop, shut-off the engine and it will restart immediately just fine. However, trying to restart after a short time sitting there, it will not get any gas (there is spark)and will not start. Then after 90+ minutes or so, no problem starting. I suspect the fuel pump. But, I am confused why it will not start for 90 minutes or so. I did a OBD1 (engine off)and got codes 14, 31, and 67. Any Help?

Well code 14 is the electronic control assembly has detected an intermittent loss of profile ignition pickup signal during recent operation. 31 says EGR valve position sensor or pressure feedback EGR sensor signal voltage is below minimum spec, orEGR vacuum regulator solenoid circuit problems, or EGR valve is not in its normal closed position. 67 is improper signals being received from several switches, Neutral drive switch, neutral gear switch, neutral pressure switch, clutch switch, manual lever position sensor or A/C clutch, or your A/C is on during testing. Hope that helps, good luck. Holler is you need any more help.

Thanks, took my truck to a mechanic, wanted 300+ after he diagnosed the problem as the ICM. WOW is right. Anyway, thanks, and I am still trying to figure out if he is right or just guessing. I suppose 14 may be the ICM malfunctioning. Will the EGR stop the truck from starting? I disconnected the A/C and the 67 went away.

I would check the wires going to the ICM. The EGR valve would make it run like crap.

Have you ever changed an ICM? Special tool? Do you have to remove something first?

Generally, you unhook it from the distributor, if its anything like a 4.9. Theres 2 small bolts to undo and presto, its off. Make sure you use the dielectric grease to reinstall it. Nothing special to do. It does require a small deep socket to remove and replace. What engine?

It is the 5.0 engine. I tried the special tool by Lisle 64650 for ignition modulator wrench for Ford. However, you can't get the tool into the ICM on the back bolt without problems. I rotated the distributor to remove the front screw but have to figure a way to remove the back screw because the distributor will not rotate far enough because the A/C is in the way or the engine is in the way. So, without a tool that can reach in there I am stuck either moving the compressor or pulling the distributor up to get to the back screw with this special tool by Lisle. There are other wrenches available that might work but online only. The rubber handle will not allow the special wrench to get into get the screw on the back. I need more wrenches to work this out. Called Ford, they don't sell the wrench.
