96 7.3 front timing cover cracked

got my 7.3 in the shop for a coolant leak. front timing cover is cracked and mechanic cant locate a timing cover. local ford dealer cant find one either. they say the part is obselete. does anyone know of a place to find one? any and all info would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Depending on where it is you may be able to tig it. Mines cracked right by the oil cooler. I bought a used motor cheap for parts. Check local yards. Where are you located.

located between austin and houston, texas. mechanic said that he didnt want to try to weld it because of the heat may warp it then we have nothing to work with. he said he tried salvage yards and no luck either. been lookin for almost 3 weeks already. i found one for a 94-95 but its a little different from what i read.

Yes they are different. And take a few more things to make them work. Such as the oil pickup and oil pan. They also have no anti drain back.

I can get my hands on one. I'm in lale Charles , la for a hundred bucks or so. It's on a motor I want to buy but it's a 97 so the front cover is of no use to me. I also may be able to weld your original. Let me know if interested!

To OP , if it is already leaking how could it hurt to weld it. There is a product available called Alumiloy (sp) it then can be welded with a propane torch rather than a tig ..

Actually in welsh so closer than that. I'm in lake Charles everyday and Jennings every other day for church!

will the 97 work on a 96?
