MPG's on a 300 6?
Hi guys, some of you may recall me posting up about getting a 5.8 F250 buuut found out the other night that I will be on my own for gas and insurance next year (parents throwing me into the real world), soo I started looking into other options and I've come up with a few:
A. Keep my 96 5.0/M5 with about 12-13 mpg and just do some upgrades to help mileage out but its starting to lose oil psi and I can't afford to replace a motor..
B. Suck it up and get the F250 and work double time to pay for fuel, guessing it will be about the same as my 96.
C. Get the 94 F150 4x4 with the 300, it should have the low end I need to pull with and now I need to know REAL world numbers for MPG on it.
The truck is spot less.. It is the kind of nice that looks like its been kept factory and clean all its life 3000 is plenty fair if you ask me..
I really need some help and real info here, if I drive this truck like a grandpa and treat her right (the 94) what can I expect for fuel economy?
And please don't throw any BS like 20+ MPG out there.. The most I expect to see out of it is like 17 MAYBE 18.
I plan to run a simple, yet free flowing exhaust on it.
Thanks for any help

My truck is a 1992, F-150 Custom....300/I6, 5 speed, 2wd/longbed/standard cab......Has 3.08's, and a Cat back exhaust routed in front of the passenger side rear wheel....2-1/4" Pipe Btw....
Here is my numbers, by topping off the tank, not by the gas gauge...
Driving HARD-
City-9-11mpg
Highway-13-17
Driving with eggshells under the pedal-
City-14-16
Highway-17-20-ish
Last TRUE highway trip I did, I drove 100.00 miles, and topped back off at 5.23 gallons....19.5-20mpg no matter how you count it....
I love my truck....Period...

you will be happy with the 4.9l i also have been thinking about swapping in a 351 in my 93 f150 which is a 5spd(m5od) working on a converson to the ZF tranmission.
i did swap my 3.08s for 3.55ls and i also have 31s on their. when i did a 50mile trip up north with the bed loaded down with wood with the 3.08 gears i got 17mpg then when i swaped the 3.55 i get a bout 17 highway and 14 city empty.

My 95 f150 with 4 inch lift and 33 inch tires is averaging right around 14 mpg. I have the 5-speed tranny, which helps. I also have 3.55 gears. It all depends on driving style, I can get near 16, or I can get 6. Depends on how hard I want to work my old motor. Mine also just turned 190k miles, and is in serious need of a tuneup. If you are constantly pulling that weight for short trips, don't expect to see mid teens.
Also, my driving conditions sound exactly the same as yours.
