84 460 vac hose routing..

Well, I feel pretty dumb asking, but desperate times call for desperate measures. 84' 460, Holly 4180. Needing help with vacuum hose routing - almost all of it.

I have no vacuum hose diagram on the radiator support. Diagrams available on Autozone do not help, they don't match - badly. It might also be that I'm just not swift enough to transpose what I see in the diagrams to what's on my truck. Anyway, I found a good post here on vac system acronyms, and I learned a good bit from this;

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ved-and-2.html

But what would really help is pics of what goes where from a properly connected system, anything between 1982-86? Or a pic of someone's vac hose routing diagram on the radiator support from a mid-80's 460?

But maybe that is too much to ask. I've taken pics of the mess I inherited, will post them if anyone feels like holding hands for a while I ask dumb questions. Please feel free to heap scorn upon me for not figuring this out..

To make your situation worse, those diagrams are dependent on the Calibration Codes from the factory; they're not all the same.

I can scan my replacement diagram from my 86, but it will be Sunday evening after I get home. It is an over 8500 GVWR system with the dual air pumps and non-catalyst. It may not match yours at all though.

Crap.. Well, hopefully looking at someone else's would at least get me in the ballpark. Right now, I'm faced with trial & error - lots of error. But good to know, thanks.

Thank you, kind sir! Very much appreciated, and understood that it won't be an exact match. But it would be better than guesswork at this point.

Is everything there or did someone gut most of the emmissions?

Half & half.. Was missing smog pump, AIR bpv, and all the plumbing. Got replacements at j/y. The VCV's are there, I think the correct quantity.. EGR is there. But all the vac hoses are either plugged or connect to nothing.

Hey Sw1tchfoot,

In this post, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-the-carb.html

you mentioned

Do you mean this one?

If so, I have one less vac hose to struggle with.

The picture did not load for me, so heres another picture to show which one I was talking about:

The port at the very top of the picture.

Ford does a lot little stuff, so I do not believe that the EGR connects directly to this port, it probably goes to a switch of some sort just like the vacuum advance goes to a coolant switch so it can switch between manifold vacuum and ported vacuum at a certain temp. But it would probably work connected directly to that port if that is the case. Just like most people disregard the coolant switch for the vacuum advance and just connect it directly to the carb.

Your 4180 might not have the choke pulloff that is in the picture, my old 4180 didn't.

Edit: The picture is working for me now, yes that is the one.

84 460 vac hose routing

Axman, when I got home I looked in my AllData and found the 1984 Diagrams. 3-97J-R10 is manual trans. and 4-98S-R0 is automatic trans. Unfortunately the Adobe pdf printer turns it into a negative, but here they both are.

Glad to help out. For the most part the color codes match the vac lines on my truck. What is crazy is that the diagram looks simple, but when I remove the air cleaner, wow, looks like spaghetti and 10x the lines...
