Welcome to fte.

It depends on the inspector, some want everything like stock, others over look non safety issues.

As Charlie says...depends on the inspector.....I have an '05 PS F250. I have removed my muffler but still have it.... go have it inspected, if they fail it for that only, you can borrow mine to have it reinspected, then remove it and give it back to me.

Hey thanks guys for the replies. I actually have my muffler still, I just had to cut off the exhaust tip right before the second to last exhaust support hook to get out around the axle. I could put the muffler back on iwthout the tip, however it would probably be somewhat hanging. Also I'm getting it done on thursday morning and I dont really have time with work to get out there and put it back on. So I guess I'll just see if they pass it on the first round.

it needs to be supported, or it will fail. It also has to exit beyond the sides, or back of the viehicle. you can get a 90* pipe, and run it out in front of the tire if you want.

Resurected

Hey all,
Sorry to bring back an old thread. I just picked up a 2000 F250 PSD 7.3 from another state. It has a 4" pipe but no muffler. It failed MD inspection. The inspector said the muffler has to me the offset kind and not able to see straight through it. I am having a bugger of a time finding something like this in a 4" for a 7.3. What is wrong with the ones like this: Magnaflow 20" Diesel Muffler 12771
Anyone in MD know of a not too picky inspector?
Thanks in advance for any help. My temp tags expire the 15th of Jan.

You may have to buy a regular truck muffler to pass. something from a larger truck should work. Our 88 IH has such a muffler. Try Beltway Internatinal.
Expect to pay around $100.
Finding an inspector around here that will pass most anything anymore is almost impossible. The State Police cracked down on them, and made the fines so outrageous it is not worth their while.
This is understandable in the long run tho, as Md only inspects one time, when you first buy.
