Question HP / Torque of a 360???

Hello again, Found out that the supposed 390 is actually a 360. Have searched the web for specs on a 360 but can't seem to find anything. Can anyone please tell me the stock horsepower and torque rating specs on a 1973 360 FE engine? I am considering replacing my tired 302 with a larger stronger engine to pull rather large enclosed trailers and need to know if I am wasting my time with the 360 / C6 combo.

Thanks again, Andy at Fort Hood, Texas

HP / Torque of a 360???

i can tell you that the stock horsepower is around 215.i'm not to sure about the torque, i'm sure someone on here knows about how much it is. as for replacing the 302 with the 360, personally, i would do it if the 360 is not worn out. i think the 302 is too small of an engine to go in a truck, but it all depends who is wanting to do the swap. you could also consider the conversion to a 390. but get back to us as to what you are going to do with the engines.

HP / Torque of a 360???

I would definately prefer a 390 because I need to be able to pull heavy trailers with this truck. 215 sounds good as for HP if that is accurate. From what I here the HP on the 302 is right at 130HP so the additional HP will help. Torque is more important for towing though. The 360 runs smooth and strong without smoking. Selling the 302 when I can (does not smoke and runs well) but just not the strong engine I need for my towing needs.

HP / Torque of a 360???

Remember, the 302's and the 360/390's have different bell housing patterns.
That said, either the 360 or 390 will make a much better truck engine than the 302.
Just my 2¢

HP / Torque of a 360???

Thanks! The HP of the 302 is 127HP from what I have been told so the 215HP of the 360 should be a great improvement. The 302 toruqe is 243 ft lbs so the additional from the 360 will work out too.

I already have a C6 tranny which came with the 360 (all for $150.00 "complete drivetrain") so bell housings are not a issue.

Just to tell what condition the 360 is in does anyone know the cranking compression readings would be on a 360? Just checking so that I can check that prior to installation and know what condition the engine is in.

Your information is greatly appriciated!

Thanks, Andy from Fort Hood, Texas

HP / Torque of a 360???

Those HP and Torque ratings, are they the same for a '71 360 and 390? I would love to know just what the ratings are on my 390 F-250. It is a good strong motor and sounds great. Once you've had a 390 FE, you can never do without one!
