04 6.0 oil & egr location
Looked thru the tech folder, if it's there i missed it.I'm looking for the location of both of these looking at some kits and the oil cooler kit doesent come with intake gaskets. I'm new to diesels but not to turning a wrench any help would be appreciated. Also are there other thing that I should do while I'm in there.
Thanks

The oil cooler is directly under the oil and fuel filter assemblies, as they actually bolt to the top of the oil cooler housing. The EGR cooler runs on the underside of the intake manifold on the passenger side. Yours will either be square or round depending on if you have an 03 motor in your 04 or not. The gaskets are reusable, but I did replace them the first time I replaced the oil cooler. A lot of guys also replace the turbo drain tube and fuel pressure regulator while in that deep.

Here you go for the EGR cooler:
From this manual:
Powerstroke 6.0L Technical Intro Manual
And a picture of the hose that connects the oil cooler to the EGR cooler. The thing with the #'s on it is the EGR cooler.

Not sure if an external oil leak on the oil cooler is common?
Depending upon your year, here are some common problems:
Oil Cooler Plugging up and usually taking out the EGR Cooler with it
Snap to Connect fitting on your HPOP *updated part available
kit also comes with all gaskets and new screen for your IPR
D-Ring failure on the crankcase to vent tube and dummy plugs *updated parts available
Turbo Drain and Feed tubes have been updated. I only replaced my Drain tube because the feed tube was retartedly priced at over $100 even @ 10% over dealer cost.
Screen under oil cooler for HPOP has been changed to metal rather than cloth. Oil Cooler Kit should come with this part.
I replaced all gaskets and o-rings on the top end while I was in there including headgaskets. Cheap insurance (accually not so cheap)
Replaced stock TTY Head bolts with ARP's Head Stud's
You might think about replacing the thermostat and housing while in there.
Perhaps a turbo cleaning while its out. I found a brass brush attachment for my drill alot better than the 3m kit recommended, but my turbo wasnt horrible.

I should have given some back ground information. I drove to work (40 miles) drove ok spitted alitle but cleaed up so I didn't think anything of it. Got in to satrt it up and leave andthe truck wouldn't start. Had it towed to a shop , they did there thing and told me it was the ICP that there wasent enough oil pressure to start the motor. Had them replace it, went to pick the truck up and they couldn't start it and now there is a MAJOR oil leak that they told me was the oil cooler, it's very ahrd to start and won't stay running fr more than 5 seconds. I wonder if this isn't the result of them pressurizing the system ? I decided to fix the truck myself.
I'm still reading thru the tech folder, good stuff.
