well...drawing a BLANK on the CIDD......
the 3.59 I know to be the ratio....
AND the D4TE is ..."DATE".......December.
But all the numbers i find start with W.....
Why does this one have a "C"...?
Oh yeah...The door plate says the axle is a "J" code for locking differential...BUT IT'S NOT.......What is the deal with that?

Can you post a picture of the tag?
Is this an integral carrier axle?
Possibly a 7 1/4" ring gear, non-ls, 24 spline axle shaft unit, similar to the 6 3/4" and 7" units used in those vehicles.
The closest I find is
D4TE-xxxx is usually found as a casting number.
D would be 1970s, 4 would be 1974, T would be truck, E woud be engine...that makes no sense.
Date codes are usually like so: 5 K 12, where:
5 is the year, K is the month, (October), 12 is the day.
See this for more and the examples:

And other code and misc. info:

The Fairlane, if a V8...will have an 8" rear axle (looks similar to a 9").
1983 LTD: This is a mid-sized Fox bodied car (I bought one brand new), it's not a Crown Vic. The LTD was renamed Crown Vic in 1982.
The rear axle is Ford's 7.5" integral first offered in 1978. The 200 I-6 was only offered in 1983.

The trans is a C5, a modded by Ford C4. No AOD's w/a 200. Dunno if the rear axle will fit.
I noticed your 200 ref in another thread, added the info into this one.
1983: The 200 and awful 3.8L V6 were all that were available. The 302 was an option beginning in 1984, the 3.8L was standard. LTD cancelled after 1986.
1985/86: There was a police cruiser option (sedans & station wagons), also available to the public...came with the same 302 hipo used in Mustang's and Mark VII LSC's.

yup...stock Fordo in her now...
The 66' 200 was likely put in after someone tried to take her out on the hiway and found out too late that wasnt the original intention for these "compacts"...lol
Anywho....
I am hoping to come across a SROD for this 66' block. Will the high mount starter be an issue?
When i get the "new" engine/trans here i hope the center link will work.
Probably gonna change the rear gear to a 3-1 or 3.03 - 1 for some better hiway cruising

Ford RUG SR-OD: "Weak sister" single rail 4 speed overdrive, originally designed for and installed in Granada's with 200/302's in an effort to improve fuel economy after the first Arab Oil Embargo ended (1974).
Ford began installing them in F100/150's, Econolines, Fairmont/Zephyr's in 1978 for the same reason: Better MPG. Replacement parts are slim and none, expensive when you do find them.
The end of the shifter fits into a plastic bushing that was notorious for breaking. Lotsa luck finding any, it's been obsolete for decades and what NOS was layin' around has mostly been bought up.
