Hey everybody, I have an ignition problem and believe it may be related to a "remanufactured" ECM. I was wondering if anyone might know how to find out what ECM should be in my truck. I don't want to go by the part number on the one I have because it may not be right either. I know there are a lot of variables that determine what ECM is used, even within the same model year and options. Any Ford dealer service employees out there?? Thanks for any hints!

 

I think the AutoZone site lists EEC PNs, and CarParts may also.

 

post your calibration # off the door or VIN and i can supply your orignal pcm part number

 

Ya, autozone has a long list of part numbers, by it's up to you to know which one you need. Just like autozone to not be of much help

the engineering # is the # you see on the pcm and usually the part # is nearly identical with a prefix ending with z. dont know why the smiley faces show up.

i know this is an old thread and i'm not discussing a truck but, hopefully you could help me out. i have a 2003 mustang 3.8L that i am converting from an automatic to a 5-speed and the pcm is different. do you think you could tell me what pcm part number i need to put in it to make sure the 5-speed works with the pcm?

 

It should run on the automatic PCM, but with codes for the sensors and solenoids not present,from the automatic trans. I am not sure what kind of failure/limp mode it will be in.
I will have to look around to see if I can come up with any calibrations parts list,anymore? Not sure?

You are correct about it working on the current PCM. You bring up some new issues about the sensors and solenoids that I was not aware of. Are these on the on the automatic transmission? I was also told that since the PCM is for an automatic, the engine would hesitate at the shift points for the automatic even though the 5-speed is in the car.

One more question, do you know what would keep me from just getting a PCM for a 2003 3.8L 5-speed car? Why can't I just switch mine with one like that?

If you supply me with a calibration # of a manual shift car, I can give you a

parts list.

Some or most of these part numbers will have changed, but you will at least

have a place to start and will be able to wrok from these numbers.

A full vin may also work.

I'm putting the PCM in my 2003. I think I found out that I needed a 3R3A-TA (XFT0). I've been doing some research.

One problem that I have is that the new PCM will not be recognized by the HEC in my car. Not really sure how the HEC is keeping track of the PCM. Is this correct?

Also, with the new PCM will my PATS system be okay with my keys? I have heard many different perspectives that the car won't start if......either the HEC is going to need to be updated to see the new PCM or the keys need to be updated in the PATS for the PCM.

HELP!!!
