Okay, I'm ready to take the plunge and start repairing sheet metal patch panels on my 78 pickup. That should be good practice for modding my 50 f1. I've got a nice Campbell Hausfeld MIG welder now. It has the options to do gas. i have a regulator but have not gotten a bottle yet. Who do ya'll recommend to lease/rent/buy co2 bottles from near Tulsa? I only plan to do carbon steel, no stainless or aluminum that's why i'm lookin at using straight co2.

 

I run 75/25 in my mig welder. Air gas is the only one I know of in tulsa I'm shure there are others. I use alloy welding supply in sapulpa but that is a long drive for you to exchange a bottle. I went ahead and bought my bottle, If I remember right it was 180 filled, and it cost around 40 to refill. You will need to check out lease options and see what you can afford. There are a couple of diffrent sized bottles to coose from too.

Aslo are you going to make it to skiatook this weekend?

I'll start making calls this week. leasing a bottle might be the way to go.

75% co2 25% argon, I ran this because its what was recomended to me.

 

I called around and found the best deal with Airgas. They all recommend 75/25 mix for carbon steel and body panel work. I plan to get a 80cuft bottle. They have them for ~$150 plus ~$31 to fill. That's the purchase price. The lease price is $55/year and ~$31 to fill. I'll go with buying instead of leasing. They also let you exchange bottles when refilling so you never have to worry about hyrdrostatic testing of the bottles. FYI, Lampton welding and Victor welding were high on their prices. And i mean high.

 

3 year lease is higher than purchasing, go figure......

75/25 is all I have ever seens anyone use for regular mild steel. Stainless and/or aluminum may call for something else.

I'm not a welder by any stretch. As one guy put it, if I could weld I'd be a good looking welder, were I good looking.......
