transmission oil change

I guess it's personal preference. Are you having an issues currently? If so, it's better to figure them out rather than just changing fluid and trying again. If you're not having issues, what I would do (and this is just me!) is drop the pan and change the filter, if for no other reason than to inspect the pan and see what's in there, for curiousities sake. I've heard differing opinions on which does a more complete job of changing fluid, and after using several different machines, some do better, some do worse. It might not change ALL the fluid, but if it's not in real bad shape, I'd do a pan drop and filter change. You can even do both if you really want to get all the old fluid out too.

^^^ great advice. With the pan off you can clean the magnet in the pan and better assess the condition of the fluid at that point too.
If you don't mind doing it yourself there is a great write up on here describing the complete process from dropping the pan to flushing out the fluid at the cooler lines in front. IMO not changing the transmission filter is like not changing the oil filter with an oil change. It's crappy that Ford techs don't do that as part of the flush. I bet they would if the transmission pan came stock with a drain plug. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...-schedule.html

In my 04 it is a filter not just a screen I would change it that is the easiest part of the whole job is only about $20 for a new filter, has a re-usable gasket so putting the pan back on is a snap...
