i need to goto a junkyard and get a turn signal switch off a 1982 f100 like mine becuz mines out, i kno how to make one but need to kno the exact meaurments because i have to make it at home then take it there, i cnt make it there, i could just go there and make some measurments but i was hopin someone could save me the half hour trip. so could someone please give me the measurments or a diagram or somethin.

just go to autozone or advance and they'll loan you one that's fully adjustable for like $20 that they refund to you when you return the tool. if you don't have one of those stores around then make yours with slots instead of holes so that you can adjust to whatever size you need.

 

2 hammer method, sitting in the seat, so you can pull on the steering wheel with your knees. Place the smaller ball peen hammer head on the center of the steering shaft (nut already removed) Point the handle at 11:00 and hold the hammer handle and the wheel with your left hand. Pull on the wheel with both legs and your left hand while you hit the hammer with the other (bigger) hammer. Works 99% of the time, it might take a few wacks.

 

Getting the correct thread size will be a problem also. I bought a harmonic balancer puller that also works well for steering wheels, but I had to hunt up the correct thread and size bolts to make it work.

But i would buy it, then you have it when you need it, you can use it on all kinds of things, not just steering wheels

 

+1 on this, I actually use mine to press brake caliper pistons...

 

I wound up buying a cheap parts-store harmonic balancer puller years ago, and used it more often to pull steering wheels... Used it so much in fact that it actually wore out!

Then I went and bought another one last year. They last about ten years each with an average of about two or three uses a year. Long enough to do what you need, and they range between $14 and $25 depending on where you go.
