I drove the new ecoboost this weekend and was very impressed. I have driven Ford diesels since 1991. I'm currently driving a 2008 that I will be trading in when my ecoboost arrives. I use to tow alot but has become less and less thru the years. However, I think this truck will perform great for the occasional tow. Anything within its towing limits.
The truck had good torque from real early in the rpm range. I truly can't get over how much it felt like my diesel. I was skeptical about it, but since I ordered one I guess you can say I'm convinced.
Just my opinion.
I ordered a Lariat, 4x4 pkg, 6-1/2' bed, with 3.73 gears. I think this will be a good set up for my uses.

A turbocharged gas engine compared to a turbocharged diesel engine.
I'm not a bit surprised at how the engine performs. I've been telling everybody this forever.

I'm sure you will love owning that truck! I got to drive an EcoBoost Lariat, and I loved it too. I really wish I was ordering one. I took it on a freeway on-ramp, the roads were wet, and it got that power down smoothly and the truck felt smooth and refined. It picked up speeds so quickly and quietly, I loved it. Having the hood open and standing right beside it, all i could hear was a slight ticking sound. Though there was an idling PowerStroke nearby that was overpowering the quiet sound of the EcoBoost. When it came to the dreaded time of getting back in my 05 5.4 extended cab XLT, I thought I would make sure I would drive it in the same manner turning left on to the same onramp. My truck was noisy, very unsettled at getting the power down (the back end didn't want to stay put), and took a lot longer to get up to speed!

 

In my opinion that's the worst thing about test driving an Ecoboost. Makes it really really hard to get back in your truck and drive away! I plan to order one this week. Love the new power plant.

 

I couldn't agree more, after Ecoboost drive, getting back in the 1995 and telling yourself you're going to wait for the '12s! I'm just not sure I've got the will power! On the '12s, anyone heard of potential changes/redesigns?

 

Might want to make a new topic asking that, I'd love to know as well. Although, I'm quite sure I won't be able to wait that long.

 

Just got a call from the dealer. My truck is in town, (still on rail car) but I should be able to pick it up in a couple of days. Woohoo....

The basic F150 Lariat Super Crew's MSRP (5.5' bed) begins at 36 grand. Lotta money for a pickup.

F150 Lariat Super Crew short bed 5.0L with 7100 GVW & Lariat Plus Packages, but w/o 4WD, Nav or DVD: $39,900.00!!

The first Ford pickup (1965 F100) I bought new was $2300.00.

 

The price of these trucks have gotten ridiculous. But this will be a cheaper purchase for me since all my other trucks have been diesel superdutys.

 

In 1965, the median family income was $5K-7K. A 1965 truck would be more comparable in terms to todays F-150 XL 4x2 V-6 work truck which starts at $23,395. The US median income today is $50,500. All things considered, I think we're getting more for our money today in terms of F-150's then we did 45 years ago.

 

$2300.00 was my price OTD and was based on a C note over dealer cost (when one works for a dealer, they pay less!).

Price included: 352 2V, 8' Styleside bed, 3 speed w/overdrive, deluxe heater, AM radio, Western mirrors, tool compartment, tax & license, dealer add on step bumper & hang on A/C (both requested).

Bought March 1965, Sold November 2009. This was the first new Ford pickup I bought new. Others:

1968 F250 Ranger; 1971 F100 Ranger XLT; 1979 F150 Lariat S/Cab; 1988 F150 Lariat S/Cab; 1992 F150 Lariat S/Cab; 2004 F150 Lariat S/Crew.

btw: In 1965, a gallon of 105 octane Chevron Custom Supreme was 32 cents a gallon here in LA LA Land. Regular was 27 cents a gallon, Supreme (95 octane) was 30 cents.

As of yesterday, average price for a gallon of 87 octane regular here in LA LA Land: $3.98. Welcome to California, home of the US of A's highest gas prices.

According to the onboard computer, the average fuel economy for this new pile (has 675 miles) is 13.4. My home is on the top of a very steep hill, takes more gas to get up it, than down it.

 

I just got my new truck yesterday and absolutely love it. My dealer is 150 miles from my house. I drove home at 75 mph and the truck showed it was getting 17.2 mpg. After a little in town driving it was still showing 16.8 mpg. After the new wears off and I keep my foot off the accelerator I really feel like I will see 18+ mpg.

Awesome, congrats on the new ride! I am seriously considering making the same move. Its time for the 08 V10 and the 30ft TT to go. Nice rig but no longer can afford to use it, and at 8-10 city mpg not practical to drive daily! I want to enjoy driving my truck, and after driving the ecoboost the other day, well all I can say is WOW! I think I may have to get me one of these! Please keep us posted on how your truck is doing, and how much I should go get me one!!
