taillight wiring diagram?

ok so i took the bed off last fall and went over the frame and such, and had trouble with the taillights

the previous owner decided he was going to splice in all new wiring and well he made it all the same color

so i was going to get 3 different color wires and rewire it the right way, solder together and heat shrink it

does anyone know of a wiring diagram for this harness to take out the guess work of hoping the colors are right?

the way the po botched it in i am having trouble figuring out where to begin

Orange/Light Blue = Left Directional/Brake Light
Light Green/Orange = Right Directional/Brake Light
Black/Pink = Back Up Light
Brown = Running Lights/Plate Light

Tail light harness

So recently I just bought a 1987 f350 4x2 custom. When I bought it I knew it needed a gas tank a bed and tail lights but under further investigation when I got home with it I can seem to find where the wires are ran from so I was wondering if it would be easier just to buy a new harness and swap it out if that was possible and i am most likely gonna make a flatbed out of wood and metal

Welcome to FTE.
FYI you did not post this in the right area as this is for the 80 to 86 but they should be close I would think.
Now the guess on my 81 F100 and pretty sure all the 80-86 trucks have 2 harness out back.
1 Starts under the brake booster assy. where the main harness comes out thru the fire wall and plugs into a harness that runs down the frame rail to the rear.
This comes in different setups based on fuel tank or tanks.

Then you have the tail light harness that plugs in to the rail harness at the left rear corner.
Should be 5 wires IIRC, left turn/brake, right turn/brake, running lights, back up lights and a ground.
(my truck did not have the ground wire for my year so only 4 wires)

So knowing that and depending on how far back you need to go to get to good wires it might be best to just run new wires.
If you have a trailer parts store near by they should have bundled 4 or 5 strand wire for rewiring trailers that you might be able to use?

I was missing the plug and taillight harness on my 81 F100 Flare Side but I was also using full wiring harness from my 81 F100 Style Side parts truck.
The tail lights are different between the 2 trucks so I had to make a taillight harness from the parts truck harness to fit my Flare Side.
From this

To this

And the plate light harness

The connectors changed in 1987 and the two generations aren't plug-and-play but they're the same basic concept that Ford has been using for decades.

Stock replacement harnesses aren't available but there's aftermarket, e.g. Painless.

Yeah, as Fuzz said, the wires poke thru the firewall down by the brake booster, down the LH frame rail to the transmission & rear end. There are some HVAC-related things poking through on the passenger side, too.

Your 5th wire is a ground that is not listed in the above post.

As for the other 2 wires is the truck set up with a trailer tow package?
If so it may have a wire for electric trailer brakes (blue most of the time) and a 12 volt to charge a battery on the trailer (red most of the time).

I have seen different weather tight pig tail connectors at NAPA and think I would go with that if I had to pull it apart again.
