Question Stock Exhaust Size?

I'm sure this is common knowledge, but I quick search didn't turn anything up.

What's the standard exhaust pipe size? My specific interest is a 96 f150 with a 351. But I'm also curious to know if 302's run the same size and if it varies on heavier trucks.

Take a look at Walker Exhaust Solutions From The Industry Leader. You can tell the OD by checking the size of clamp used.

I believe that your exhaust OD is 2 and one quarter inch before the muffler and then 2 inch tail pipe for both tail pipes. The 302 uses 2 1/4 through out -including the single tail pipe/ The 351 has twin tail pipes of 2 inch OD---the 300 and 302 uses a single 2 1/4 inch OD tail pipe.

good info here. I would like to add that the 351 3/4 and 1 ton trucks have an exhaust resembling what you describe. both 1/2 tons I have owned with 351's only had a single tail pipe.

That most likely means it's the same as the 300/302 trucks.

thank you

My '92 F350 w/5.8L engine used that hokey dual tailpipe setup. The factory y-pipe is pretty neat, dual pipes that terminate into an oval flange. But the factory single converter is a monster and $$pricey$$

Chances are if you still have the factory converter and you have a decent amount of miles on the truck... It's probably 1/2 clogged and worthless! Granted the OEM style ones are $$$$$... Git rid of it for a less expensive high flow stainless from Magnaflow. Save cash and add a little power... or better yet... Don't put one back on and save more (unless you get emissions tested and taged that is...).

I replaced the factory exhaust with a Bassani y-pipe, Magnaflow high-flow converter and muffler then finished it off with a Dynomax 3" single tailpipe about 2 years ago.

I did find a previous owner had hollowed out that monster converter. The entire exhaust was ready to fall off the truck when I replaced it. In fact the pipe leading out of the converter fell apart a few days before my parts arrived.

Did your 351 1/2 tons have the factory exhaust tail pipe and muffler? Are you sure that they weren't aftermarket. It is my understanding that even the one half tons got dual exhaust pipes from the factory. And that many of them were replaced with single exhaust mufflers and tail pipes because it was cheaper.

Even the Bronco that had the factory 351 had dual tail pipes from the factory. And there are no 3/4 ton Broncos.

I'm 100% sure, I went with my dad to pick up the 95 when it was brand new off the lot. Also, I've never seen a bronco like that before...

Also, here is a diagram of a 96 bronco with 351

im wanting to take off everything from the first cat back and put in a single pipe with a dumped muffler and need to know what im looking for.

I think it's OD, because that would be the ID of the muffler inlet to slide over the pipe. I'm making this up of course, so hopefully this will bump the thread some someone who actually knows can answer.

What is the thing in between the cat and the muffler? Is it just a heat shield or what?

It's a heat shield between the downstream converter and the transmission.

that is the 2nd part of the cat system, it also has the ceramic honeycomb in it to catch more pollutants, the first one misses
