What are the buttons on the center console gear shifter?

Ive noticed while looking at online photos of the 2011 F150s, that on the FX4 and above trim levels, there are 2 sets of buttons on the center gear shifter. On mine, there is only one for tow/haul mode. I can make out in the pictures that its still there, but what is the other button?

The other button on my Lariat is the manual mode shifter. Instead of moving the shifter side to side, it's button controlled. Or so i think.

Pretty sure you are referring to the SelectShift transmission -- as above, if you put the truck in "M" (manual), then you use it to shift gears up/down. If you are not in "M", then you can also use it to see what gear you are in (on the LCD screen), and you can also cancel higher gears (e.g. cancel 6 and 5, then the truck will only use gears 1-4).

It may be the tow/haul, but your owners manual will tell you.

The top button with the +/- is for the manual shift mode. The button with the T/H is for the tow/haul mode.

Thank you. Thats what I was refering to. Because my '10 only has the tow/haul, there isnt an owners manual for me to look into.

Now...how does the manual shift work? Whats your opinion?

The Selectshift is great. I don't own one yet but I have one on order in my 2011 FX4 EB. I have driven a 5.0 with a console Selectshift and a EB with a column Selectshift and the console is much better for me.

It allows you to manually shift all gears with the up and down switch while in manual mode. It also allows you to lock out gears. If you are towing and you notice the truck hunting for gears between 5th and 6th, then lock out 6th and the transmission will never shift to 6th. Or lock out 5th and 6th if needed, etc.

My opinion? I am selling my 6.8 V10 SD with a 6 speed manual trans for a 3.5EB F150 with the Selectshift on the console. I like to have control over my transmission and Ford has finally given me the control I need with this automatic.
