390 headers

390 headers
has anyone hear put a set of headers on a 390 in an f100/f150 73-79?
I will in about a month, and my set is different than any set ive ever seen. On the pass. side the front two pipes go in front, down and around the engine mount, and the back two look to somehow bend around the starter and head down to the collector. the drivers side don't look bad, just don't know what will have to be taken off periodically to get the header in.
Just wondering how easily/hard they go in and any tips for installation. The manifold bolts are all loose (as in none will snap. i can get them off no problem). so thats out of the picture thank God.
And do headers really wake up this engine?

well the pass side splits in two, after you cut the rest of the flange where the pre-cut is. and it supposedly fits around the pedestal or whatever you call it that the mount bolts to. i don't mind if i have to grind some of it away, but the starter seems to maybe be in the way. i'll find out i guess lol

What brand headers are those? I wouldn't cut that flange as your probably gunna have to lift that side up as well.. The starter is a tight fit, even with a mini starter it can be a real pain, as you'll find out soon enough.. A bit of a juggling trick to it.. Re-Build the starter or go with a mini-starter when it's out and use heat wrap on it as it will sit real close to the pipes... do a search a read some previous threads on the subject...

I used headers just like those in my highboy. The passenger side came apart so you could install them without removing the motor mount pedestal or even jacking the motor up to clear the flange. They did clear the starter, and it took some moving it around, but I could replace the starter without removing the header.
I think, if you pull the starter, disconnect the passenger-side motor mount, and jack the engine up as far as you can go, you can install that header from the bottom by sneaking the header flange between the block and the pedestal. Removing the motor mount from the engine might help too.

Tight fit..makes changing the starter a Bear....
Use a Starter heat sheild
Better fuel economy and torque
Worth the swap
