Up in the far north we have a private city run telephone company that provides the works, phone, cable, cell, and internet.
They have been implementing a user pay more for their bandwidth use for at least 6 mnths, at first it was showing up on your bill to get u used to seeing it, and they have as of Jan been charging for the extra use. If you want more, then you have to pay for the extra level of download speed/amount or you get charged per your overage. It is coming!

 

But it is exactly like, and WORSE than, when Rogers cable tried to implement "negative option billing", everybody had to get it first and say no, if you didn't say no you would be charged, only this time UBB will go into law across the country, where Rogers cable was only on a company level and was only a west coast thing I think.

UBB is already here sort of, telus,rogers,shaw,have existing "caps" but do not enforce them yet, now they want to lower them and enforce them by charging a ridiculous markup per gigabyte downloaded. It costs them a penny or two to transmit 1 gig and they want to charge us a flat rate of something like $50 a month for like 50gigs and if we go over, they will charge $2 per gig. Thats a %200 profit for them doing nothing but changing the rules to put theirs hands deeper in our pockets!!!!!!

Think of it like this: You rent a place to live, by paying rent, a flat fee, you have free access to the kitchen to cook and bake and prepare goodies to take to a bake sale etc, the place stays the same but the landlord all of a sudden decides to charge you for every time you use the kitchen more than 90 times a month because 3 meals a day is 3 times 30 days is 90 uses and thats all anybody needs and if you want more you can bloody well pay to get back in the kitchen, so the idea of a fee for going over your "cap" of accessing your kitchen 90 times now seems pretty unbelievable doesn't it?
