Nostalgia; first taste of Ford
Hey all, I've always wanted to ask members of the site, what made you go blue?
For me, everythings always been Ford, Ford, Ford. We don't even use "big green tractors"....Ford had an answer for that need, as well lol It's what I know now, too late to relearn another brand!! My favorite era has to be the modern classic "bullnose" (80-86) F-series. The very first truck I ever remember seeing was my grandpas 84 F-250. It was a base model, light duty (with the oddball semi-float D60 rear) 4x4, 302 (feedback carb lol) with a t-18 (more on the funky drivetrain later). Ill always remember, it was bright canyon red, with cab lights....even today the sight of him pulling in his driveway around dusk with the marker lights on is etched in my head. Man it looked so cool! I was even in diapers during this. Despite being his first 4x4, he only had it about 6 years. It was handed down to my great uncle, who trashed it
Many other early 80's F trucks made in into the family. Grandpa actually had a two tone green F250 4x2 prior to the "red menace", my great aunt had a brand new 83 F350 4x4 (6.9L 4spd...two tone silve/black with red pinstripes...SHARP paint scheme, but I can't find a pic of it to save my life!!), her daughter owned an almost new 86 F250 4x4 (300-6 4spd, sky blue...held onto that until 2003), mom had a light duty 85 f250 (identical to my great aunts truck cosmetically, but mimicked grandpas 4x4 drivetrain, with the exception of EFI) and finally my "first car" was a 1980 light F250 with a 400M and a black banged up 97 bed on 35's.
Interesting fact I learned about a year ago. My 2nd cousin (son to the one-ton-ownin great aunt) actually custom ordered my grandpas truck in 83. He usually goes for red truck half tons (red should've given it away lol) . He went 3/4 ton because it was an $800 option. Ended up hating the truck, as the 302 was both gutless and eating him up in gas (had a ranger prior to this). So he offered it to grandpa, who declined (out of guilt of "taking advantage" of his nephew) only to buy the truck off the lot 2 weeks later.
Mark (cousin) said if he had it to do over again, he'd have scrapped the 3/4 ton option and 302 and got a quad shock F150 with a 351w and ltd slip in the front (salesman talked his dad, the cosigner, out of it).
Sorry about the rant, just some neat history (I think) there. I've always liked the old "dentsides" for their simplicity, but that image of grandpas canyon red F2 at dusk just won't let me live with anything else
let's hear some more stories!!

Well i grew up on GM bread and butter...so you would think that my first car/truck would have been a GM, nope..it was a old T-bird...and that is all i have driven since is ford stuff, but i did have my fair share of Gm's and a couple of Dodges to...but with all the driving i do nothing has held up as well as a Ford truck..

Some of the things I remember the most I was 5 and my Uncle had a 66 Fairlane 390 4 spd.with the lower head lights pulled like the ram air look and his 64 Galaxie 390 4 spd.The most awesome is riding on my Aunts lap in his 69 Mustang with a built 351w and a 4 spd. couldn't see over the dash all i remember is the clock and the shifter and it was loud and fast.I basic have owned every year Torino and 56, 66-69 Fairlanes.Like almost all Fords currently working on a 68 F100.Future want a 69 Mustang and a model A
