I was looking on the Ford Fleet website and looking at: 2011 Ford Super Duty Pickup: Specifications and came across this

6.2L* 2-Valve V8 FFV (see the asterisk)

I followed this down to the end of the page and read


<SUP>*</SUP>385 hp and 405 lb.-ft. of torque under 10K GVWR. 316 hp and 397 lb.-ft. of torque over 10K GVWR.


So according to this an F350 would get a lower rated 6.2. Maybe a typo.

If this is indeed truly the case, the 6.2 isnt that much better than the old 5.4, numbers wise for the over 10k trucks. I can't believe this would be true.

 

Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

 

Im not 100% on this but i know ford likes to lower the power on there cab trucks. It could be for cab models ordered for utility bed, etc etc.

After all you can just get a diablo tuner or something to that nature and run in a performance tune for a regular truck. I dont see them doing anything other than programing diff.

 

I believe that they have the same power but use a different (lower rpm rating as opposed to max hp and torque) for over 10,000 lbs.

 

I've noticed they lower numbers for the cab & chassis but this is under the regular pick up section??

 

its a government thing in the over 10k trucks. Same motor same power but the published numbers are lower

 

I dont believe the fleet section shows the regular model trucks. Only the work models.

Well when you select the truck to spec out it allows for Ranger, 150, 250, 350, 350 chassis, 450 chassis, 550 chassis. But maybe its that. On that link I provided you can click on "Trucks" on the left column and see the available truck options.

 

On fords regular site even the 450 shows the full hp rating. Its only those fleet work trucks that are cut back.

Not quite.

It's the chassis/cab trucks as opposed to pickups. Because even the F350 chassis/cab is rated for a higher GVWR than the F450 pickup trucks. This puts it over 14,000 lbs, which puts it in an emissions category that requires a different emissions certification.

Attaining that requires the de-tuned PSD, but both the v10 and 6.2 are at their full designed horsepower.

On edit: Unfortunately due to government intervention the advertised horsepower ratings are now very misleading to everyone. I wish something was present on the Ford advertising literature that explained this better!
