Motor mount perch issues.

I need some different motor mount perches for my 302 swap. So I went on Ebay and found someone selling these perches:

78-79 Ford F250 4x4 351M/400 Motor Mount Frame Perches - eBay (item 140495395386 end time Jan-05-11 19:34:17 PST)

351M/400 perches! Great so I bid on them thinking that they were small block perches and will work great for my 302 swap according to Fordification's very informative page on perches....

Comparison Photos of Engine Perches - FORDification.com

So I got them in the mail today and was looking at them thinking... now how and the hell are these going to bolt up and they sure don't look right. I went online to the Fordification site and started digging a little more.... well according to Fig. 10 and 11 these mounts are not for the 351M/400 but for the FE series! Well now I am in confused as the only difference according to the site is that the motor will sit 1" higher which MAY cause drive shaft problems.. My ultimate question is.... is there any way these will work? Should I use these perches I bought, the perches from the 360 in the truck... or should I go on the hunt again and find the right perches?

I have only bought a couple of items off of Ebay and now I know to take a closer look at the pictures and descriptions as the seller may not know exactly what they have. Lesson learned.

So the ones in the truck now are the same as the ones you bought? 360=FE. But either way you should be fine with the fe ones.

Those perches from ebay looks like the ones I have in my truck and they are for a 351M/400, cuz that's what was in my truck.

The ones in the truck are different. The perches from Ebay are from a newer truck 78-79 and for a 4 wheel drive. According to Fordification if I use the FE mounts that are currently on the truck right now for my 302 the engine will sit 1" higher and will cause u-joint binding.

Fordification's page on engine perches must be wrong then... how do these perches mount to your frame if you don't mind showing or explaining. I don't think I could even get these to mount to my frame if I wanted to as I believe the crossmembers must be different between the 2WD and 4WD.

My truck is a 77 F250, but uses the later perches for the 351M/400

I didn't have an above view of the drivers side, but here is the passenger side.

Awesome pictures. Indeed those are the perches I have.. my 2WD is different the perches are mounted to the crossmember.

To address my other question... will the current FE perches in my truck work for the 302 i have or is that inch just to much for the u-joints?

After even more research I found that these indeed are the correct mounts that I purchased and was wrong when I thought they would work for my 302 swap. The FE 4WD mounts on the Fordification site look very similar but indeed are different than the 351M/400 mounts, Fordification does not have a picture of the 351M/400 4WD mounts, which is why I thought they were wrong. Either way they will not work on my 2WD... still in need of 2WD perches for a small block!

see you have a divorced transfer case. used to have a f-250 but with mated up tranny/transfercase. nice work on frame, like the color. converting a 1970 ford f-250 4wd with 400 4v to zf tranny 5 speed. its been fun and having to build tranny mount and transfer for applicaiton. lost in wyoming and lovin it.

1977/79 F100/350 351M/400 TWO Wheel Drive Engine Supports (towers, stand, perches) are the same as 1969/79 F100 302 / 1975/79 F150 302.

There are no 302 4WD engine supports, as Ford didn't offer 4WD w/a 302 until 1980 (1969/77 Bronco's excepted).

You cannot rely on illustrations in Ford parts catalogs to ID what certain parts look like. Some may be generic, some may have been drawn years ago.

The illustration sections of Ford parts catalogs are designed to find basic part numbers.
