Need Help with Exhaust Leak

I just finished a huge job of pulling the motor. I re-placing the bed plate gasket, HGs and installed ARP studs. I can't get the Y-pipe on each side of the motor to seal against the exhaust manifolds. I don't have any other exhaust leaks. Does anyone have some ideas on how do get the y-pipe to seal. Thanks!

I had the same problem after taking my exhaust manifold off to drill it for and EGT probe. I tried 4 different times to get it mated up, Ypipe first turbo last, turbo loose, manifold loose y pipe next, it did not matter how I did it. Eventually I over tightened the bolts to the point of bending the clamp on the y pipe, after that I really became frustrated. I replaced the y pipe because of the bent clamp. I still had a leak. The only thing I could figure was the exhaust manifold was out of round and I was too cheap to buy one. So finally I went down to the local muffler shop and gave them the inside diameter of the exhaust manifold and the outside diameter of the flare on the up pipe. I told him I wanted a metal crush gasket about 1/8 inch thick a hair bigger than the inside diameter of the manifold. He looked it up gave me a part number and sent me to Carquest to pick it up.

10,000 miles still no leaks. I actually just checked it again about 2 weeks ago. It may not be the recommended way but it is working great.
Sorry I cannot find the part number for the gasket or I would give it to you.

Just the kind of solution I was looking for. Awesome! Love this site. I ordered the exhaust gaskets today. I will take a few pictures and update this post when I install them.

Installed the gaskets today and they helped with the exhaust leak. Should add post to the tech folder. Here are some pictures:

Glad it worked for you. How did you get the picture? I could barely get on hand up there while trying to get the o-ring in place with the other.

Exhaust leak at turbo

I pulled the turbo on an '03 6.0 to get down to the oil cooler now I have an exhaust leak at the intake side. Any suggestions? I cleaned the scale off of the turbo face and the face of the "y" pipe feels smooth. The mating joint looks tight and I've replaced the clamp.

Can I get a crush washer in this joint?

I would definitely buy this gasket when you have to remove the up pipe. Even if you don't use it, it's still worth the extra 2 bucks worth of insurance before you start the job. Do yourself a favor and include this in your parts list for the job.

If you have a 2000 it is not a 6.0 !

I is a good chance the your y-pipe is cracked.
Look at the fire wall and up behind the engine to see if you see any soot.
