Cooling System Capacity

misplaced my manual, would anyone know the cooling system capacity for a 2006 5.4L and how many jugs of coolant I need to buy?

The aftermarket places have a plain old green coolant flush parts & labour included for about $100.00 and to buy the yellow MOTORCRAFT stuff in Canada is $25 a jug just for the coolant. Should I use the MOTORCRAFT or aftermarket green?

The '06 5.4L takes 20.9 quarts of the Motorcraft Premium Gold engine coolant.

Okay well its a big NO on the green!!! The correct coolant for your truck can also be bought as Zerex in the gold bottle and is only about 12.00 each at a parts store. Are you just going to drain the radiator and refill? Or do a complete system flush? You will need 2.5 gallons for a radiator drain and about 4 gallons for a flush.

thanks for the comments---so why do these aftermarket guys purport that their green coolant is good for anything? The sob told me that FORD just dyes theirs yellow & its all the same stuff.

Oh wow!!!! He is remedial for sure!! The color really means nothing but it can help a little. The ford yellow spec coolant is a HOAT "Hybrid Organic Acid Technology" coolant does not have any carboxylate salts in it which will ruin seals and metals. This is well known in the Dexcool coolant as that coolant is junk and ruins more things then it helps. The coolants they sell at the parts houses that say "for any color" antifreeze is simply not true. All that stuff is super high silicate coolant and will lead to drop out of the additives. Prestone comes to mind when I think of this, when used with Dexcool it creates a Jello like mess in the radiator and when combined with any HOAT it spikes the PH through the roof!!! So just use the correct stuff
