What is involved in doing a drum to disc swap on a Dana 60 rear axle? Are there any aftermarket kits, or would I have to find hardware off of a newer model with a dana 60?

good stuff, i wanted to ask the same question as i found several kits online but wasnt sure which to use. i also didnt want to make another thread on it but i couldnt find much during a search.

so other then the brackets, this kit uses standard GM parts?

 

yes i used gm calipers and rotors from a 77 3/4 4x4 chevy truck.i also opted for the stainless steel braided brake line kit it was very easy to install.

 

did you get the calipers through them or some where local? thanks for the info

 

you can buy them though them but i got mine locally an saved about $100dollars in shipping

certainly seems like a pretty reasonable price for a win win item. i have to buy all new drums shoes cylinders, the whole nine anyway so why no go to something better and something that will preform better?

 

he's right on the year rotors and calipers to use but as far as brackets go i made my own for free




I just used a piece of construction paper and made it work. The only critical thing is the hole centers and tapped.
I like this design so I could clock it perfect to allow the bleeder screw to sit vertical AFTER I rotated my diff up for my cv driveshaft. The axle points up about 20 degrees with my lift so i dont think a stcok bracket would of worked as well.

As for brake line stainless is nice but mine i searched through a brake line catalogue and found these from a 80's chevette car!! 10$ each and works great with enough length to still service pads.



As you can see its been sitting for awhile now...

This is actually a D70 rear axle but same thing. Even my diff cover was described to fit a dana 60 but I knew they interchange

 

and now you need a parking brake!

This is what i use



its a mechanical ball valve line lock using brake pressure. Hold brakes on then twist valve.
It pretty badass.

It makes it easy to install and is in a good accessible spot.

I love it offroad on a hill i engage it, then with foot on gas and clutch i gas it on the hill then twist the line lok off so i have zero roll back and just go straight up.
Also on a tight corner i put it on, engage my twin stick t case to front wheel drive only, then crank wheel hard in direction needed then gassing it pivot off my back tires on a dime turning corner. Who does that in there 73 Dent lol

Yeah. those are illegal in any of the states i have lived in.
