How do I tell if I have Remote Keyless Entry

Just bought a used 2005 F250 with a 6.0 PSD.
It has electric door locks but I was only given a standard key.
Q1. Are there trucks without Remote Keyless Entry?
Q2. How do I tell if the keyless receiver is installed in the truck?
Q3. Is there a way to unlock all the locks with the key in the door?

I got this from the F150.net website. Perhaps the rapid on/off of the ignition switch will tell you if you have remote capability or not.

<TABLE style="BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" border=0 cellSpacing=0 borderColor=#111111 cellPadding=0 width="100%" itxtvisited="1"><TBODY itxtvisited="1"><TR itxtvisited="1"><TD width="100%" itxtvisited="1">How to reprogram your keyless entry remote controls (97-up)

</TD><TD width="100%" itxtvisited="1"></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
It is necessary to have ALL (maximum of four-original and/or new) of your remote transmitters available prior to beginning this procedure

To program the transmitters yourself:
  1. [*]
Just a note, my '99 F150 had electric locks but after the on/off sequence, they didn't lock/unlock (because I didn't have the module). Just to make sure, I checked my wife's Escort (which did have remote lock/unlock); the procedure above worked.
If the doors don't lock/unlock, you don't have the remote module.

Hope this helps,
Curt

Do the check, but you probably have the remotes and just need to pick up a remote and program it. That is what I did when I got my '01 a bunch of years ago.

I had actually just checked into this earlier today when ordering parts from Ford. My question is can a keyless entry module be added? Are the trucks pre-wired for it?

It appears your trim level is an XL. If so, it's unlikely that it has RKE.

If your trim level is Lariat, it likely does have it.

If an XLT, it's a toss-up.

It is with heavy heart that I have to, at present time, agree with the answer of "NO"...

I'm still looking into it though... if the factory can install it, anyone can.

Assuming you don't have the module after doing the check in my first reply, I'd recommend going to a stereo store that offers RKE to get a price quote. That will a) tell you if the wiring is existing and b) give you a hunch on how much Ford will charge you (stereo shop times at least 2 would be my guess).

And, no, you can't unlock all the locks with the key in the door; you could with a key pad or remote.

I tried to do the above tests last night and couldn't get the locks to operate. I guess I don't have the module, just the electric locks.
I did find this at Sam's. Bulldog Security KE1702 Remote Keyless Entry - Sam's Club Has anyone used one of these?

The kit from Sam's appears to be 2 high-powered transmitter; no module is mentioned.

If you use the part #KE1702 to search on the Bulldog website you get this page
Bulldog Security. Model KE1702 Vehicle Keyless Entry System
It shows a module that has to be wired in.

RKE

Look at your dashboard, if you have a blinking sensor you have a RKE vehicle.

One way to tell if a truck has factory RKE is to look at the front passenger door handle. The exterior door lock is deleted when the RKE option is selected. If you have a keyhole on the passenger door, you don't have factory RKE.

I have a 1996 Ford Explorer XLT and it doesnt have a keyless inter but if you turn the key to the right two times while it is in the door it does unlock all the doors.

Might be time to update this thread. I was successfully able to enable factory RKE on my 2008 F250 XL without adding any aftermarket parts. I only had to buy the fobs.

For the 2008s (maybe others, too) you can use FORScan to modify the as-built data to enable RKE. Like I've always said, the SJB is identical on every pickup, the RKE transceiver is present, but disabled.

It's just a matter of flipping two bits to match the w/RKE vehicles.
