Dandy Don Meredith...RIP

Well since you are from Texas I can be honest. While I can't stand the Cowboys (America's Team bs mainly) along with the Raiders, as I am a Baltimore Colts and San Francisco 49er fan ( ah, there is a connection) I do remember Don. In the mid-60's it was always Bart, Johnny and Don with Sonny, Roman and Fran playing right behind. I remember those games against the Packers in '66 and '67 before the America's Team marketing crap. Don was a tough quarterback in the old ways just like the others I named. I remember when he started on Monday Night Football with Keith and Howard. I recall how he could use his sense of humor to check Howard's ego when it would get out of hand on the telecast now and then. A bit stunned to hear at the age of 72. We will never see those old style true QB leaders calling their own plays ever again... RIP, Don.

The Danderoo put the luster on the star of the Dallas Cowboys. The persona of the 'Boys. I remember going to the Cotton Bowl to watch him/them play. If the NFL imposed their TV "blackout" on them my Dad & Uncles would load us up to Weatherford, TX to a hotel to watch them. Always leaning the hotel mattress against the wall, setting up a poker table...watch the game. I was always the designated beer boy and was absolutely thrilled to be part gang.
The older we get the more fond the memories. Thanks Don...I'll keep the lights on for ya.
