You remind me of our son: He & I put a 347 stroker in a 92 Bronco during his senior year in HS. In the ten years since he has driven it to college at TU in Tulsa, internship in Golden, CO, grad school at Notre Dame, and an aerospace engineering job in southern CA. Along the way we have done various upgrades in addition to routine maintenance - including an emergency fuel pump replacement he and some climbing buddies did alongside I-40 in western OK a few years ago. These are the experiences that help build that "can do/will-do" attitude and approach to life. Keep it up!

Wow that's cool! I definitely have more plans in stock for this truck. It's an addiction. I love having something that I can work on over time.

Next thing I'm doing is the rear suspension on the truck, got everything I need:


The next BIG project, which will begin next summer, will be the body work. Replacing all fenders, cutting out every square inch of rust and welding in new sheet metal, and painting the truck black. Going to get new headlights, bumpers, etc. over time as I save up the money!

 

so i know this is a lil dated but im bout to do the same thing on my 91 f150 with the 4x4 parts coming donor truck being a old farm truck that ended up lighting on fire when the guy was plowing.

my question is not how hard it would be but if i should use the quad shock setup that is on the donor. or just switch to a front leaf spring setup. bc if i go with the leaf on the front it will be cheaper to lift it.

i mean it seems that keeping the springs for a smoother ride would be pointless if its going to be essentially a straight axle.

thoughts?

 

Sorry for the late reply on this (just seeing it). The front axle would be a TTB if done from a truck of the same generation. The shock and spring tower on your pickup is a single shock, and the one on the 4x4 is a quad right? That means it had the off road package. You don't need to swap the towers. 4x4's without the off road package had the same towers that are on the 2wd models. If your donor truck is a solid axle then there is much more involved then just a straight bolt up swap. There are some great write ups on here about TTB solid axle swaps. I just did the 2wd to 4wd conversion on mine recently and opted to keep the stock towers on mine (pain in the a$$ to remove). I do plan to put quad ones on but they will be new ones and at a later date. There is also a great write up on the 4x4 conversion (it's the one i followed).

 

I figured I'd wake this thread back up again, planning on doing this to my 89. Really hopeing Minnesotafisherman can chime in on how the truck has held up over time. Would be nice to hear
