i have an 84 f150 with a 300 I6 and a 3spd with overdrive. i heard a clicking sound but not loud then the next time i drove old blue (my 84) it sliped in the begining of 2nd and 3rd then after about 3 miles it slips in all 4 gears. im guessing my pressure plate has broken. im going to call a shop on monday but if its alot of labor i may have to do it myself but i thought i would see what the average labor bill is from you guys. also my gvwr is 6250 so from what i understand i need the 10in clutch correct?

I dont know what beechkid is talking about maybe $150. an hour but a clutch job will be 4 or 5 hours to replace the clutch & machine the flywheel, Gigger

In SoCal, a 4x2 clutch replacement (assuming no machine work is required) is typically around $150-$200 plus parts (pressure plate, disc and TO bearing). Now I know there are guys who pay $500 for a basic clutch replacement, but you can find good mechs that will do it in the price range I stated- but for 4x4, that's going to start adding things up on top of that.

 

well in the end i found the best way for me is to lay on my back and start taking stuff apart because in my area im looking at $500-$800 and i dont have that much cash at this moment so i got a duralast clutch kit for $85 and i will do it myself with a 24pk of friends.

 

just so you know a 1984 F150 up here in Canada would be rusted & everything would be siezed unlike a California truck, I'm not sure about VA, hey Beechkid where do you work? Gigger

ive done a few clutch / trans jobs in the past but that was on a lift in a shop where i work with all my tools feet away but the shop is too busy now for me to tie a bay up, so i have to do this one on my back in the front yard but the way i look at it im paying myself $500 do do it.

 

it's all about saving $ that's a good price on the clutch kit, Did it come with the clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, & a dummy spline to line up the clutch disk?

 

yeah its everything. it one of those "i know someone at a parts store" deal. i think it list for $120.
