So my recent wiring misfortunes have forced me to open up the dash and deal with things that I was hoping to deal with later. Nevertheless, I was looking into replacing the blower motor and heater core and it would appear that the assembly that houses it has rusty rivets holding it together? Am I to assume that this has never been cracked open and the heater core is the stock one? I can't figure any other way that it would have been accessed.

Either way, my question is, do I really need to grind the rivets off in order to access these two items? If so, how do I reassemble this when I am done? Do these get replaced with bolts and screws?

Any info here is appreciated.

I thought I might could help, but mine is a factory a/c unit. I replaced the blower motor and heater core and it wasn't fun at all. Yours should be alot easier.

 

In reviewing other posts on this subject, it sounds like this assembly should be mechanically fastened from the engine compartment, but I couldn't really see how that occurs. Any info would he helpfull. Thanks.

 

i pulled mine out and it had screws holding the heater core cover plate in place. you have to remove that cover to pull the core out. its small, maybe 3x8 in cover for the core.

 

I got the entire assembly out and removed the heater core and the fan, but I am wondering if there is any way to "freshen up" the flapper valve that directs the air? It appears to be a metal flap with rubber around the edges, but the rubber is pretty chewed up. Do they may replacements for these or do you just have deal with it? Can't find any options on LMC.

This will sound silly- but how do you get the heater assembly BACK into place after removal? I cannot for the life of me slide it into place, and have been scratching my entire dash trying. There must be only ONE orientation that allows it to fit in? I had the best luck putting the blower motor side in first and can get it into place, but then the rest of the box near the heater core tubes gets caught. ANY HELP?

 

I just put a new heater core in my 79 f150, no ac, I took the glove box out to be able to see better. I also took the little fresh air door off before trying to put it back in. I set it on the floor, tipped the top up in and then rocked it back, being careful not to damage the heater core nipples. The only "snag" was the center bolt that goes through the firewall was the only "hang up" It seems longer than necessary. Good luck.

 

I have a 1975 F-250 High Boy with factory air, 360, and C-6. I accessed the heater coil by removing the air conditioning coil from inside the cab. Once the A/C coil was removed the heater coil is staring right at you and comes straight out. Before removing the A/C coil, I removed the blower; but, could not access the heater coil. Not possible on my truck.

 

Here is a good example of one with factory air.
