A piller grab handle

A piller grab handle
Hey guys Im not sure if anyone has found a way to put a handle on the a pillers on these trucks, but I found a way. I took a handle off a 96 explorer, drilled two holes through the trim pieace and into the a piller, took 2 1 inch screws and fastened it down. Now for the test, I think that the handle will break before the screws will give, but i got three more handles just incase. If anyone wants to see it mounted I got a couple of pictures in my gallery in my profile, check um out and let me know what you think.

I've been thinking about this for a while. I want to put them either on the A pillar or on the roof above the window on the doors. Does anyone know of any aftermarket kits for something like this? I would just hope that with sheet metal screws, drilled into the A-pillar that the threads wouldn't rip out and defeat the purpose. Did you go all the way through to the outside of the cab?

well I drilled into the a piller from the inside and used 2 number 10 or 12, 1 inch screws. The problem being the a piller is on a 45 degree angle and its hard to drill into it. If I see a problem with the trim cracking I will probably take a pieace of wood and make a spacer to go from the piller to the handle. It wont get used to much as I dont have passengers to often, let me know if any of you try this and have any problems. This only took me about 10 minuets to do.

It works!
I have done the same thing in the lat 2 trucks I have had. I got some buddys who are short and heave and they have always held. It is hard to drill them for sure but it can be done use a punch to make a pilot mark. As for trim breaking it hasnt happend to me. It seems pretty flexible in that area.

did this on mine a few years ago with one of those universal handles you can buy at the local parts store. If you buy some universal shock bushings( they are in the help line, the red carded parts) you can put the bushings on back of the trim and run the screws through them. They will give when you tighten down the a pillar trim and give support to the handle. no vibration or cracking so far.
