Question Possibly a 1964 ranger?

I just found what looks like a 1964 Ford shortbed ranger on ebay. Item number 350411426548. It shows the bucket seats and console but looks to be in poor shape. I thought the rangers didn't come around till 1965. Could this be a true ranger optioned truck or another want to be model? It still looks like it would be a good truck to restore either way.

I believe this battle raged on this forum a while ago, no such thing as a '64 Ranger, wasn't available till '65.

And of course the data plate is tantalizingly too far away to read properly. Looks like the sequential production number in the VIN is 511390 which would put it at Feb '64 production.

Ford offered a "Sport Package" in 1964. They are very rare and one must research the floor pans as there is no trim info to advise of it.

If it is factory it will have the anchor plates for the inboard seat bracket and for the console.

There is one in Riverside California.

I just spoke with the seller. He was very nice. I told him about us and the interest in this trucks interior. He said he would try to get some pictures and post them in here for us to see.

I am glad to see him offering it for sale instead of crushing it.

Dave, this truck in Riverside is a FAKE and you know that. As I recall when we met at the 2008 Western Nats, you told me the guy made it up.

In fact, the owner admitted to Don (camperspecial65), myself and two members of SoCal Galaxies (both belong to Pickups Limited-that stage F100 Western Nationals where the truck was at) that he did exactly that!

According to Ford, there IS NO SUCH THING as a 1964 Ranger-PERIOD!

Ford announced the Sport Package in an early sales brochure, but later editions have no info on at...at all. There is ZERO parts catalog info on it. No specific anything is listed.

Bill,

I will say it again. The truck in Riverside is a factory equipped truck with bostrom bucket seats (why you had no clue what they where) and a fairlane console. All he did is have a new warranty plate made.

The truck has the factory reinforcement bosses for the seat brackets and console.

Yes it is not a ranger, however it was equipped as it is presentented less the plastic insert in the shields.

I will have to track down the original trim nomenclature that was on the warranty tag.

You know i have the means to build a factory identical clone, That even you could not tell was faux.................In fact the current build i am working on will have all the ranger attributes and a few extras.

I know what bostrum seats look like-these ain't it-they look to me to be from a 1957/60 MG) and a fairlane console. Fairlane console? What year Fairlane console?

All he did is have a new warranty plate made.

Who welded them in? Ford, the fabricator that made this FAKE up, or?

Yes it is not a ranger, however it was equipped as it is presented less the plastic insert in the shields.

The BODY code on this truck is: E81 = Red Crush Vinyl & Red Check Stripe Woven Plastic / 81B Custom Cab.

If this truck came with bucket seats as original, it would not have this BODY code. And since there is no BODY code for 1964's with bucket seats, the truck would have a 6 digit DSO denoting a special order, if the seats were factory installed.

The DSO code is 2 digits.

The truck has a molded plastic headliner...what other Ford truck of this vintage had any such thing? N-O-N-E - NONE!

This truck has personalized CA plates that refer to it as a 1964 Ranger.

Dave, I'll say it again...the owner ADMITTED in front of four people he had the truck made up!

Where are the CD's I loaned you?

Let the naysayers say what they want but the particular truck in question on ebay is in fact a Sport with factory bucket seats.

Truck was a S P E C I A L O R D E R built in lorain and sold new in Atlanta area. Same owner for a long time who just passed away a few months ago.

Every time a super rare piece comes up ND always has to down play it and make it sound like he is the highest authority in the land on all things ford, have never seen him admit he has ever been wrong and thats been many times.

Call this truck what you want a Ranger or Sport Package but its legit.

Remember also there was ANOTHER documented Bucket seat truck built but with a 427. A lot of similarities with this truck.

The truck also came factory with a 3.89 gear set and it just so happens to be the same axle ratio as the F100 XL
