aftermarket sparks plugs for 5.4L

just wondering i have a 07 5.4L in my f150 with 30,000 miles on it. it runs fine but want to change the sparks for two reasons one i don't want them to get stuck in the cyl. heads and break off and i want to upgrade a liitle bit so looking for some good ideas on some good aftermarket spark plugs for a stock engine any ideas would be welcome thanks

I don't think the 07-08 have the spark plug issue.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

It would depend on the build date. Around September 2007 the revised cylinder heads were used. The exact date is on a thread from a year or more ago. So all 07 and some early 08 5.4L's could have the spark plug issue.

Stick with Motorcraft. There's something about this 5.4 that really likes the Motorcraft parts (filters - oil & air, plugs, etc)

The ignition is very sensitive to the plug resistance.Search for the issues people have had when they have tried bosch and NGk plugs just to have to do it a second time with OEM plugs.

Regarding the updated heads/plugs, look for brown boots on the COPS (coil on plugs) for the revised and improved parts. If you've got those, you'll have an easier time with the plug change.

There are many who have had great sucess with Champion plugs, so don't rule that out as an option.

I had the plugs changed in my 04 f150 with the 5.4 a few months back and they put in autolite double platinum plugs. My truck ran like crap. They couldnt figure it out. Another mechanic put in motorcraft and the truck ran like a champ. I would not putting anything back in the motor besides OEM.

There are only 4 different brands that are available for our 5.4 3V, at least the last time I looked. Those are Motorcraft, Autolite, Champion and Brisk. Champion and Brisk each have a similar design where the Motorcraft and Autolite are the same design as the factory plugs.

The key with this stuff is follow the TSB, latest and greatest is TSB 08-7-6. Some are using smaller cordless impact drivers to remove the plugs (not sure if the engine is hot or cold) with sucess. Have the Lisle tool handy and you should be just fine regardless of the removal method you choose.

If the new sparkplugs( whatever brand) are made for that engine they should work. The engine doesn't know which ones are factory or not.

At 49,whatever-thousand miles I pulled my spark plugs and put them back in. I did not want them to get stuck the heads. They were factory Motorcraft spark plugs. The truck then ran terribly nasty. The engine and transmission shook voilently. I made haste getting home but drove gently. On the way home I paid $65.00 for 8 Motorcraft spark plugs. That night I completely dismantled the ignition system. I cleaned it meticulously and put in the new spark plugs with anti-sieze.

Where did all this low end torque come from? My truck never really had that off idle torque. It always ran great from 2,000 to 5.000 rpm. Now it comes to life at 1,500 rpm. The mid-range did not change. At 5,200 rpm when the gas pedal is floored the tires generally break loose a little and always have.

Disclaimer: I had a professional cut into my Y-pipe and weld in my $50.00 junkyard 3" pipe and Magnaflow that I got off a Silverado. It is true 3" single exaust.
