If your about to drop the tank to work on, or change the fuel pump, it's said by those that have done it, that it's easier to disconnect the fuel filler hose, tail light wiring harness connector, remove the tailgate to make te bed lighter, then unbolt & slide the bed back to rest the front on the rear tires, the back portion on saw horses.
Then you can access the fuel pump without having to disconnect the fuel fller hose, drain & drop the tank, which is said to be a bigger pia.
Yup as has been said, there is a vacuum line at the tank that goes to the vapor recovery canister & those tank fumes are recovered & used to help the engine start & run easier when cold, so that hose needs to be hooked up & in good condition for the engine to run right, have lower emissions & prevent vapor recovery system trouble codes.
