Sticking fuel pump relay in cold weather?
1990 5.8 auto. My fuel pump did not want to shut off this morning, it was very cold, about minus 5 degrees. When I turned the truck off, the fuel pump kept running. I went under the hood and jiggled the wires marked "fuel pump," next to where you attach the code reader on the drivers side inner fender. This made it stop.
One more thing, the truck had a coolant leak this morning, it seemed to be from a hose clamp, so we tightened them all and sprayed the engine down to get the coolant off. Maybe water got into the relay and since it was so cold, it did not dry? Actually, is that the relay that I jiggled, and if so, is it replaceable?

hey jbronco
my 91 used to do the same thing. the relay would stick and the fuel pump would not shut off. yes it is replaceable. let me go outside and get the part number for the relay. E3TB9345A2A i think it was about 30 dollars. you dont have to go to ford but i did.it was a pain to get it un cliped from the mount. hasnt stuck since i changed it.

Thanks. I will keep my eye on it and if it happens again I will replace the relay.
I never needed that relay, it turned out that a bad ignition switch was the source of my problems. But thanks for the tips. I kept the 70 amp relay that I special ordered from JC Whitney, you never know when you might need something like that and they are not available locally.
