98 F150 Intake Manifold Runner Control valve problem

My 1998 F150 4.2L V6 145K miles has developed a stuck open Intake Manifold Runner Control Valve OBD code 1537. Has been suggested by mechnic who attempted to conduct annual inspection that it is likely gummed up with cabon based on their experience. Looking for the does and don't of repair/replacement of the IMRC from those who have done this before. Thanks in advance for any and all helpful replies to this post

I remembered a thread from several years ago and dug it up. Maybe some help...
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...-acuators.html

Try using the search feature on the top task bar, searching for your code or "IMRC" or "runner control".

There is some info there, just nothing recent as the IMRC setup has not been used for several years now.

Hope you get is squared away.

hi, if it is the vacuum type check the pipe work for leaks and check that the lever arms have not come off the activators. if not sure suck on the rubber pipe and you will hear the flaps open and close all with the engine turned off. hope this helps bokker.

New to this site I hope you fixed your problem? I've recently come upon the same problem will be working on my IMRcv friday hopefully I'll solve this its been a tough one won't pass smog runs great except at lower rpms slightly sputters just enough to give a high CO2 reading to fail it. So I either I replace the 1 bank IMRC with a used one from the junk yard or buy a new one. I've tried seafoam replaced the dpef valve,EGR valve, vaccum control breather valves almost anything that would cause the code 1537 and engine light still came back on as you might guess this has been costly mechanic fees and parts killing me I'll check to see if they can be opened up and cleaned keep you informed if you have any thing please hit me back.
