Glow Plug R&R Tip
 

While changing out my GPs last week I used this tip I read about. After breaking the GP loose push a piece of tight fitting tubing over the end to unthread it and pull it out. Works great for taking them out and putting them in.

Motorcraft Beru ZD11. The ones I got at Auto Zone for a penny a piece. Remember that thread? :)

I remember. I bought some WAP,Inc. glow plugs for later. Will install them when I replace my injectors. Hopefully, this will be sometime in the near future. :confused:

WAP - Formerly Wellman Automotive Products. They've been around 50 years. I know this because I just Googled WAP, inc. :) I bet they make some good products, especially if you buy from them.

I haven't had any issues with my glow plugs. I just bought them as a preventative maintenance type thing when I replace the injectors. I want to do this when the finances allow for it. That may be a while. :-X05

I did the driver's side GPs last weekend but I've been 'saving' the passenger side ones.... maybe this coming weekend I'll get to those

Yeah, it does seem odd, but I live at 5,000 feet and it gets in the low teens here in winter. I ohmed them out and knew I had one bad one and I wasn't going to do just one. Besides I killed a few birds with one stone. I retorqued rocker pedastels and injector hold downs while I was in there. Seemed like half the bolts were loose. I had a loose UVCH connector and put a retaining clip on each side. Those were a rip at the dealer, 14 bucks for a package of three. Cant buy just two. But what I saved on the penny apiece glow plugs at Auto Zone more than made up for it. :)

Yeah I wish I would have taken action and got those penny glow plugs. Damn I was dumb.

Good tip on removing the plugs, its what I did as well. Makes it ten times easier.

So how does your truck sound after you tightened everything down? Have you taken it for a spin yet?

It does sound a bit quieter. I also saw that the #8 injector is not an LL, but an AB like all the rest. No wonder it was so noisy before I did the CCK. Another thing I noticed was the #1 injector that the dealer replaced under warranty back in June 2002 is a reman, WTF. :-huh I didn't know enough back then to demand a new injector. That was about three weeks after buying it used from this same dealer. I took it in three times complaining about it running rough between 1200 and 1500 RPMS before they decided that there was a problem. Cracked injector cub at 46k ruined the injector. Fuel in the coolant is why they thought it was an injector cup. Been running great for the last 52k.

No noticeable SOTP performance difference.

I didn't notice any performance issues either, but I did enjoy the way the engine tightened up. To me the difference in sound is more noticeable just cruising down the road.

I didn't know you lived that high up. Do you have heated seats in your truck? I'll never go without them again.

I'll have to pay attention next time I drive the truck.

No heated seats, but I don't know what I'm missin', never had heated seats. :-huh
