Picture of Toyota Steering Box??
 
Does antone have a picture of the Toyota 4X4 Steering box that will work on a 1960 effie?

Walston, if your stock steering box is a through frame with pitman arm and draglink then it will be the bracket that determines if you can mount it to your setup. CPP has a lot of pictures for their kits. Look at this http://www.classicperform.com/produc.../5356PSK-T.htm and see if your box is similar to the Toyota box for the 53-56 setup. You can also make your own bracket that looks like a stretched Z shape and goes between the top and bottom portion of the inside frame rail.

Sorry but my experience is with the 53-56 years but I can't see why that setup couldn't be adjusted to work on your year. You could also search past threads as others have posed the same question on the later model years.

I can get you a picture of the right box tomorrow. I have one sitting on the floor of my shop that's VERY photogenic. '79-84 and some 85 Toyota 4WD pickups should have what you need.

Here's a tip, if your local 4x4 clubs have a website place a wanted ad for one on there. The early Toy pickup guys part out darn near everything on those trucks. That's what I did, and in less than 24 hours I was offered at least a half dozen of them between $25-$60, so I just picked the closest one.

Here's some pics, sorry for the delay. I haven't pulled off the old Toyota pitman arm or rag joint yet, so it looks a little funny. The correct early box is MUCH shorter than the later style box. Let me know if you need more info.

Hope you got the return hose fitting with yours Walston. It's a bas***d size, and if you run into header clearance problems like I did you may need it to make a modified fitting. I've learned a LOT about power steering hoses and fittings over the last couple weeks trying to solve the problem with over the counter parts. My SS braid hoses arrived today! Won't get to put them on until the weekend tho, if she isn't covered in snow that is... Weather guessers are saying there's a slight chance of a white Xmas.
I'd much prefer the 80* one we had a couple years ago tho. 32 years of shoveling the stuff in Buffalo gave me a fill of snow for a lifetime.

Goobzilla, I ended up having to split the pitman arm and nut with a cutoff wheel, there was no way they were coming off otherwise. If you are using the heavy V shaped bolt on mount, mount the box first, you'll need to grind off the ears on the box where they overhang the mount so the mount can go up against the frame properly, and there is no way to get to the bolts once the mount is in the frame. BTDT!

I did get the return fitting, thanks for the other tips. Is the v - shaped bracket worth buying? I was thinking about making my own bracket? The engine is out of my truck so interferences won't be easy to identify now.

If you're handy, you certainly could make your own bracket. The V shaped one is VERY heavy, made from ~ 1 1/4" square bar stock. For a synopsis of my install, search for my topic "progress". Interference is going to be dependent on your engine/header choices. My SBC with full length headers clears the box no problem, but the rearmost pipe on the header is ~ 2" away from and directly in line with the return hose fitting. As you know the stock fitting comes straight out so that puts the end the hose goes on right against the header :(
Next I tried buying the hose and adapter set Mid Fifties sells, the return hose has a right angle fitting on it which would have been perfect had it not needed an adapter to fit the box. The adapter fitting made the whole assembly ~ 1/4" too long to fit :( :(
Then I tried to have a custom hose made, but nobody makes a 17mm x 1.5 fitting except Toyota and MF which has their adapter fitting specially machined. :( :( :(
Finally I cut the straight aluminum tube (yes I tried bending it first) out of the stock fitting and cut a right angle bent steel tube off the OEM pressure side hose I happend to get with the box, and after testing the plain fitting in the box alone to determine the proper direction for the tube to point, I nickle silver brazed the tube into the fitting. Now I have a tight right angle bend fitting that will let the hose clear the header pipe. :)
By the way in case you can use the info, the >1980 GM Saginaw PS pump uses the same 16mm fitting as the pressure side of the box does, so you can use a stock Toyota pressure hose! :) :) :) The return side is low pressure so you just use a cut to length PS return hose and a couple hose clamps for that line. Since I returned the hose kit to MF I decided to go top shelf with Russell brand SS braid covered PS hose and fittings from Summit racing to match the other braid covered hoses on the truck. Russell does make 16mm to 6 AN adapter fittings for the pressure side. :D

Mid fifty and CCP sell a conversion pitman arm with the Toyota spline and ford draglink ball. I'd suggest getting a new pitman shaft nut as well.

I have both the Toyota arm and the original. I plam to cut the spline ends off and weld the Toyota spline end onto the original Ford Pitman arm. I'll post a picture when finished.
